I haven't changed mine in a while but it's almost worked better as the filter has got older. Almost like its pushing through more of it as it gets clogged. I'm sure ill replace both at the end of the cold season but not sure how much a difference it'll make. both I meant fan and filter

How long is awhile? I know that activated carbon works by binding odor molecules to the surface of the carbon, but once all the surface area has been used it stops working and releases odor like there isn't even a filter.

What size do you use and what is the cost of it?

and why change the fan? is it experiencing problems from pulling through a dirty filter?

It would be perpetual if I wasn't so lazy and didn't also do outdoor...

I have no idea how much the filters are, my buddy owns a hydro store and I just kinda grab what I need and he gives me a price. Each flower cycle depends on the strain, between 8-10 weeks each for a total of 16-20 weeks of total filter use.

veg room is in it's own tent.

GOD DAMN THOSE OUTDOORS ARE MONSTERS!

haha It's always nice to have friends in strategic places.:blsmoke: So basically 3 filters a year? that seems like it could add up pretty quick...good thing you got the hook-up. lol

Do you filter the Veg room?

Also, I'd rep you if could cause your setup is pretty awesome and those outdoors...wonderful. But since I'm new here I cant rep anyone yet. :wall:

I noticed in your Sig that you have some NGG glass for sale...do you have a progression thread?

Edit: I just scanned through the glass thread in your sig...nice work man! how long have you been on the torch?

Im making a diy c filter. Thats very cheap... But my room is only4x4x6... so i think I can get away with it.. depending on your size you may be able to do it as well? I bout a carbon filter sold for house filtering... it was $9. gotta modify it but I hope it works...

Have not purchased an exhaust fan tho... what cfm should I go w/ for that small space?

I bought my first setup a few weeks before christmas so almost 2 months. Nope I don't filter the veg room.

Ya DIY's definitely cut down on cost...but having to build one every time you need to replace it is a PITA...of course you could build it so you just empty the used carbon and re-fill with good carbon. lol

For a room that size, which is 96 cubic feet, a 440CFM fan would recirc the entire rooms volume 4.5 times every hour which is pretty ideal...however you have to make sure that the filter you build can handle that amount of air...if it is too small it will be pulling too fast and wont scrub the air properly...if its too big it will put too much load on the fan and burn them out quicker...There is an awesome thread on here (i cant remember the name of it for the life of me) that lists fan CFM ratings and the respective dimensions of the ideal carbon filter. Do a search and try to find it before you build your filter, just so you are safe.

Nice man that's awesome. I'm looking to get my first setup very soon, just need to keep saving the $$. You are picking it up really quick for only 2 months. I assume you read through FDD2BLK's glass thread since you are contributing to his "Vacation" fund...have you read through ResearchKitty's? Its pretty good.

Yep, I've been all over these forums... I've been trolling the toke and talk section lately but figured I'd get back into the grow sections and spread some knowledge.

For sure. Toke n Talk is the one place I haven't really dove into head first (except the Glass House, been all over that one), but i appreciate you stopping by.

Exactly what i was talking about, except someone here did a write-up on it. lol
Thanks guys.
Also, Is it a must to have the c filter and fan blowing out of the chamber? If it was just inside the chamber, that would reduce the fans I need to cool/tickle my plants... right? and the active carbon would be in contact w/ the air being cycled thru it as well as the stinky air just hangin around in my chamber?

just brainstorming...

My room is sealed so I don't exhaust the air going through the carbon filter it just recycles the air in the room. I use co2 for my plants instead of fresh air. The air going over my hoods comes from outside (through the plywood, see video) and goes back out of the room on the other side. The air passing over the lights never comes in the room. How you run it depends on your setup. If you are running air cooled hoods and they are sucking air out of the room the you need to attach a filter.
