Is it worth the effort to repack a carbon filter with fresh activated charcoal? I got one thats not keeping up anymore, and if so where is good place to get it? Found some on Ebay but it looks like pellets

It all depends on the micro holes within the pallets.. Anything rated for aquarium and water filtering (reverse osmoses system) should work fine. Look for these in bulk.. If they are pallet chance are that a lot of air will circulate between the pallets and not true it.. You could crush these pallets. But its time consuming... Get a decent size like a few grain of sand cluster togeter.. Pallet can still work but they don't create the same air pressure resistance that force the air thru the pallet.

I have looked at that before and decided it is too messy, too much a PIA, drilling rivets and not cost effective. Amazon has new 6" Australian carbon filters for $50.

absolutely not

whats the humidity thats what kills a carbon filter prematurely if it isnt just old as f. sometimes it just gets too stinky to deal with it also so maybe just double up with an extra filter or something like that, but trying to repack it isnt going to fix a thing and will be WAY worse than what you have now.

Some people say yes and some people say no. I'm in the no camp. The first carbon filter I ever used was a DIY that I made. It worked but it was a messy endeavor. Sure you can take it apart and refill it but unless you have a vibrating table to pack it down real good you're not going to get the carbon packed real tight like it needs to be. I just buy the $50 6" Vivosuns off of Amazon. My current one is on it's fourth grow and no smells in the garage. By the time you pay for enough carbon to fill them up and the time it takes you might save $10 and have an inferior product. I'm all for saving money but I'm not going through the hassle with refilling a carbon filter. Now if you have one of those big industrial size units it might be worth it.

One tip, I have Phat filters that have been running nonstop over 6 years and still work. Phat and Phresh are the only filters I will buy, because they work so well and last so long.

i have been through several really cheap filters with many smell problems. its not worth buying them. i wouldn't bother repacking. buying a good filter should last a good time.

i use a can filter. it works and isn't overly expensive. i dont like the flange on them though

Been refilling mine for about 7 years, no magic in filling them just corporate propaganda so as to sell more filters. Mine are mainly perforated stainless those parts last about forever.

I have been running mine almost 7 years with no refilling and they still work like a champ.

Not become “Nose Blind” by any chance?
lol nope. I have two filters in each flowering room. I forgot to plug one back in when I started this round and I noticed the smell trying to come back, plugged it in and bam, gone. Without the CF's you could smell my grow from the street, strongly. With them you can't smell it standing in the room with the plants.
