i am reading up on two filters one from phresh and one from Filtaroo
both say they use virgin carbon. Filtaroo is apparently a good Australian made one

would you pay $170 for the phresh 150mmx300mm or the Filtaroo for the same price but 150mmx500mm
i dont know if you have heard of Filtaroo filters

Id get the Phresh just because I know what I am getting. I have 6 of their 12x48 inch filters and they have all been excellent. I haven't heard of the Filtaroo, so it may be just as good.

I'm cheap. I use a 6" Vivosun filter with a 6" 400 cfm Active Air inline fan and Active Air speed controller. Can't smell a thing outside the tent in the garage. And the fan doesn't buzz or anything when turned down. $50 for the filter, $17 for the controller, and $82 for the fan. But I'm just in a 4 x 4 tent not a big room with dozens of plants.

i have a feeling the Vivosun filter is the one i was using before that came with the tent fan and filter package. for the extra $40 ish ill still go with Phresh. i like cheap but i dont like it being cheap and rubbish like the junk i just got
Vivosun fans buzz for me i have two both buzz at reduced speed so i prefer not using the speed control even if its pre attached but apart from that they work good for small grows plus quiet. my grow cupboard is almost dead silent once i finish the sound dampening insulation and add a duct silencer it should be dead silent. just got to control that smell

The buzz is why I went with the Active Air fan and controller. And the fact that the bearings in the Vivosun fan I had started going bad. But it did run 24/7 for around two years.

I'm also in a legal state so stealth is not that important. But I still don't want my neighbors knowing my business. I also have occasional guests that are not really keen on cannabis and probably voted against legalization. They don't know I smoke and I want to keep it that way.

FWIW as I am new I have a 6" Active Air inline fan, using their speed control and a Active Air Inline filter, and it is very quiet on low settings and pushes air.

How sad you have to actually control the smell... Rural grower here. Not in my house either.....

You finally hit on it. Bad filter with shitty carbon.

Buy only fresh filters of name brands.

Look around the site for how to "clean" or "refresh" your carbon....Search that.... Posted several times on how to do that with good results!

I’ve had nothing but problems from my Vivosun. It seems that it chooses when it wants to work and doesn’t...some days there will be no odor. Other days I come home and the basement smells like a skunks ass. I also used it in a 4x4 and have since made the switch to Phresh.

ill be buying a different carbon filter any suggestions on who i should buy from that has good filters that are not over priced
Have you considered making one? Mine cost me $4 in activated carbon and stuff I had laying around. Worked great for about 6 mo, and only now is it starting to smell a little bit and only when the fan is on max. I still have half the carbon I bought.

Also, cause you have the can already, have you considered taking the carbon out and baking it for a while. That's a good $0 option.

had considered it. my last filter i emptied the carbon and filled it with wood and used it as a dust intake filter
the only hard thing with refilling them with carbon would be getting the right amount in it. iid rather buy then still but i may start repacking my own soon depending on cost. i mean if i can buy a Phresh and it last 3 to 5 yrs its money well spent if i keep going though filters every yr ill learn to repack
