My dad street raced and worked for a couple race teams in the late 60's and early 70's. Dad had some neat shit including a 57 chevy wagon straight axle that sat high in the air with a big block and a 69 corvette 427 with a turbo 400 came from factory with the auto.

I have built several cars from the ground up, restored cars etc. I have built 4 wheel drives and sand rails and spent a lot of time in the mud and had some fun street cars.

I haven't built or done anything in a lot of years, just got burned out and got pretty heavy into ATV'ing. Lately I have really been thinking about starting another project and pondering what I would like to build.

Where I live now is hilly and a lot of winding roads. I have decided I want to build a early 90's mustang convertible 5.0 5 speed. Remove the top, rear seat and put a cage in it. big brakes, top of the line suspension and build it to about 500 horse to just run the roads in my area.

Who else here has this shit in their blood?

back in the late 70's I had a Jeep p/u with a big Cadillac (500?) engine with 2-4bbl. always putting u-joints and clutches in it. that got it out of my system:)

Yea ive built a number of cars..sadly I don't have any of em anymore
My favorite.....was an 89 mustang, convertible. I stripped it and cleaned it up(no more roof) dropped an ls1 into it...was a lot more work than originally planned. Had to knock out the fire wall and searched forever to find a pair of Shorties to make it around the steering column etc..I basically just combined/welded the top half of the Chevy engine mount to the ford mount..a th350 mated nicely for the most part and all went well....bad ass car that more importantly, every aspect was free....got the shell for free for doing an engine swap out of that mustang into a 25th anniversary gt model..now I needed a drive train.. the ls1 came out a buddies junked Corvette that he intended to put an ls3...had to rebuild the engine, honed it and ported it in the process etc......anyway that's one of my favorite builds I ever did.. also swapped a 454 in a old suburban did a lot of crate swaps actually, a old malibu wagon was cool

Being in Texas, there are drag races all weekend long...as a child I would go mainly to temple and watch every Saturday ah such fond memories...took my wife to the fall nationals and she's hooked too

My dad had a 78 suburban with a 454/400 turbo. had a small cam in it for towing and a good shift kit, it would bark the tires when it shifted if you were getting in it even with a big boat on the back! It was an ugly rusty suburban but I always got a kick out of that thing.

I am not a huge fan of the mustangs but I don't want to build another one from the ground up fab work etc. I want something I can drive and make fast with bolt ons and I don't know what could be easier and cheaper than a mustang, you can get anything for them.
