Can't figure this one out, maybe process was screwed up

Plant was cut down two weeks ago, hung up to dry for about 5 days, branches still a little bendy when buds were cut off stalk. After cut off stalk they were put in a jar with a lid on, burping from time to time. Question is, even with a lid on the jar there was no moisture build up on the inside of the jar, but after burping for about 9 days now, the buds still smell like cut grass. Did the process get messed up some how? Should they have hung longer to dry more? When the buds were cut off the stalk, they were pretty much almost crunchy. They burn fast, as if they are too dry, but they still smell like that cut grass smell, with practically no bud smell. Ideas?

let them hang till branches snap like wishbones should be able to hear it crack then jar also fresh fruit smells nothing like commercial
