Can't do pitch black

Hi guys,

I've started flowering my plant...she's in the closet.

My question is this.... does she really need PITCH BLACK conditions? do plants anywhere in the world get that?..what about moon, stars, etc.


My problem is I just cannot eliminate all light that goes in there..there are small cracks where the door meets the wall. It is tiny.... and does not go directy on the plant. she is near the middle of the closet at dark time.

There were several other spots where light was leaking through...at the top and bottom. I closed those off with black garbage bag strips. and a towel on the bottom.

Now I went into the closet and it was pretty dark in there already without all the leaks fixed. so i can imagine it is even more dark with all the major leaks closed.

I doubt that light coming through the cracks will effect anything, I think your good. I could be wrong but from where the light comes into the cracks does it ever hit the plants?

Nope.... tomorrow I will hang a black garbage bag from the closet rod, and have it surround her....although 2 sides will be open for vent....but that should ensure that its as pitch black as i can get it.


I can see into the closet through the top crack....(which is blocked from the light by garbage bag strip....but i can look underneath it and see the inside.....and its very very black.

Thank you... I guess all I can do is my best..and see what happens....she is 3 days in...and still no sign of sex.

Yeah man all you have to do is experiment. See how this grow goes and if something goes wrong then just change up your room a little bit. Good luck man.

consider this figure: an intensity of about 3w of light per square meter (unless its green) will cause your plants to herm during flowering. thats a very small amount of light, but a lot more than what bounces around from the moon at night.

Light leaks are fine in the veg cycle. For the flower cycle some strains will be OK with small light leaks but other strains will Hermie evry time you flower them. Sativas flower for a long time and are the ones that tend to Herrmie before a Indica will. I myself would caulk the cracks and use weatherstripping for the door. White caulking works great and its cheap. Good Luck. Peace out!
