cannabutter question

Hey all! I made my first batch of cannabutter with coconut oil.

I may have kept it in the slow cooker or too long and some of the oil evaporated. (I started with 1/3 cup of coconut oil and ended up losing about 1 tbsp or roughly 20%.)

When some of the oil evaporates, does that make the extract stronger or does the THC evaporate along with the coconut oil, keeping the strength the same?

It goes with it my man. I recommend highly a "levo2" for all your cannabis baking needs. Literally the best machine out there for this. It costs a good amount, but you infuse a cup of coconut oil and you get a cup of coconut oil , clean , and almost effortless.

Hi there..oil does not evaporate...you lose some to the plant material as it is nearly impossible to squeeze every bit out when straining.
Quite normal.

I have one...it is a great machine. Do you squeeze strain your material after draining the Levo?
I find there is a lot of residual in the plant material, so I freeze the already run material and save it until I figure I have enough to do a boiling water bath.
A quick dunking of material into as little boiling water as is feasible.
No more than a minute.
Strain, allow to set in refrigerator, then recover oil.
Just a thought...I like to get as much use out of my labour's as possible.
Peace.

So the trick I use is a French press screen. I decarb an oz, pour my desired product over it,let it infuse for 2 hrs at 165. I have a circular rubber press after draining the material that I squish the remaining oil or butter out , until the buds feel empty (empty as possible anyway) and throw the used buds into my compost bin .

I do the same with a screen in the Levo...I only use the pod if I'm decarbing a small amount of kief.
I make a pouch with parchment paper, insert into the pod and just remove and unwrap when done.
Lots can be done at the touch of a button, love it.
Much easier than old skool methods lol.
Peace.

I had a serious problem when it came to making thc peanut butter cups...or having the butter in general...I use it with eggs, toast, popcorn, you name it....then 20 min after eating I feel like I'm floating for half the day. Now I use it at night with rice or whatever for dinner andnset myself up for a great sleep. Lol. Best machine ever though really

I would extract the plant material with alcohol and then just mix the finished extract with the heated oil, because food oils are not very good as solvents, too viscous even when hot. Even glycerol, which is an alcohol but a viscous one, takes weeks to dissolve most of the cannabinoids. Also, coconut oil may not be the best choice. Though it tastes good, it's solid at room temperature, which is kind of inconvenient.

What I do when I want an edible form is put a small amount of olive oil in a small microwavable polypropylene container, I use a protein scoop like I used to prop up a pancake of solid extract in another post, and put about 1/3 of a gram of extract in and get it warm enough so I can mix it in, like probably 10 seconds, then I down it, scraping the last of it out with some bread, which also helps get the oil down. I guess you could just spread the oil on the bread instead of downing it straight, it does burn some going down straight, also it could be too hot.

I guess I didn't think it through too well, but for some reason I couldn't resist downing it like a shot. Why do I torture my throat like that? Dunno, just had an urge to down that oil shot for some reason, so I did, and boy did it sting, but it still didn't deter me from doing it again, crazy as it sounds. It just was so enticing, all I had to do was put the scoop to my mouth and tip it in, how could I resist?

Whatever works my friend.

Not sure about oil but i know butter evaporates water from it making the return smaller. Idk if it would be the same sort of thing happening with coconut oil

Never let the temperature get over 200゚degrees it's best between 165 and 175.
Above 200 the THC molecules begin to degrade. Set your slow cooker in the warm position and check regularly with a digital thermometer. I switch the setting warm to low to warm to try to keep it between the 165 and 175.
I am finishing up a Labor Day batch right now.
Never let it boil.
Happy Labor Day
Stay safe!
