Cannabis Horticulture Certification

This may not be in the correct thread but it's a weird question and there wasnt any obvious place to ask it. I'm interested in getting into cannabis horticulture and wanted to see if anyone had any info on where to look. I see an online course in my area but it's like 3 grand, is that about right? Because of it's legal status there is a gray area on extra education, it almost seems like anyone can just make a class and start charging people. Idk. Thoughts?

Your best bet will to find a job in the industry and work your way up-work hard and make yourself indispensable. The classes that are available are a complete waste of money, just pure thievery. I think a few legitimate colleges offer 4 year degrees in horticulture, I'm thinking...Oregon State maybe? Would that be worth it? Probably not. I don't regret going to college but that's only because I actually WENT to college, forget this online BS. It's great you want to further your education, just be careful because there are money grubbing parasites everywhere.

Read some horticultural books, research online, any "cannabis specific courses" are a total joke and scam. Cannabis doesn't require some special knowledge. Basic horticultural self taught knowledge is usually enough to get some one on track growing weed.

Thanks for the responses everyone. My main goal is to break into the field and I want to have something that shows I have experience without getting into the fact I grow on the side, especially because the state I am in is only medical. This may sound cheesy but this is my dream job.

I'm sure everybody on here dreams of growing weed for a living. Legally....

Seems like most jobs in the industry ain't paying shit tho.

So it seems like you need to start your own legal grow...but to do that...especially round here...you need to grease those slimy politicians up with bribes to get a license.

All the legal licenses went to known people who were giving a lot of money to politics when it first went legal.

Well, I will eventually get in, mark my words...and I'll do it without selling out.

I’ll be honest if you were to show me that I’d laugh in my head and send you on your way. An actual college degree in botany or some form of plant sciences would be better. you bringing me your bud you grew in your tent is another one I’d look away at. Growing on a commercial level is different then home.

Yup, commercially grown recreational grown bud is absolutely shit weed. That's why I became a home grower. Self taught also! :eyesmoke:

Depends on the commercial grower. i have zero issue getting rid of my commercial stuff. But the difference is it has smell and taste. Which is unheard of.
Obviously the commercial growers in WA just don't get it. 10 $ for a gram of weed from a rec store in Washington will last me 1 morning, with a meehaagg kinda high. My weed I grow, I'm down too a half gram of bud per day through the bong. Nuff said there.

You could go get some kind of degree in horticulture while finding a job in the industry. Let's just say it's possible but also a tough road to hoe. Good luck, if you want it bad enough and are willing to put in the work you can have it.
