Canna Coco A + B Users

Hey people,

I wanted to ask Canna growers who are using Coco A+ b are you running Drain to waste or not?

I spoke to a rep and they are insisting I should not get run off to allow for chemical reactions but every issue I have (mainly mag def) I get told to water until run off.

So how many of you are using canna Coco A+ B successfully and getting run off when you water.

If you could point me to how your making it work I would greatly appreciate it but getting an idea on numbers would help also.

Cheers

I never heard of a Coco grower using mineral salts and not feeding to run off........regardless of the brand.
As far as I know, not feeding to run off leads to salt build up.

That's what I assumed, but the rep went into quite serious detail specifically saying a "calcium/potassium exchange" occurs in the substrate and watering until run off will push out these exchanged elements.

Do you use canna coco a +b until run off?

Push out something that's already readily available in the nutrient solution? I don't know what the sales reps are smoking at Canna tbh!

Maybe he's talking about the buffering capability of Coco coir that take a couple of days to fully build up? That doesn't make no runoff a good practice, arguably at transplant and with small seedlings/plants but that's about it.

In veg 95% of my feeding doesn't have run off and 100% of my flowering has no run off basically its treat for the plants to get run off, I feed from the bottom by pouring a jug of nutrient into a tray

Idk about chemical reactions that's not my reasons for it mine is convenience.

There's lots of examples of no run off systems using coco and mineral salts like capillary tables, blumats, sub irrigated planters, hempy,s and autopots, the secret (if there is one) is suitable nutrient ec.

I've grown numerous crops with and without run off I'd say on the whole run off is a big waste of money.

I had my best runs treating coir like active hydro. Passive systems performs too, not just as well as a active system that's being fed more often IMO.

I don't recommend no runoff to people who's just starting out and follows general recommendations, they will only end up overfeeding and build up salts.

Nutrient salt expenses are my least concern growing Cannabis but I get the argument. I grow for pennies mixing my own salts.

Beautiful, thanks guys now I know more people are watering until Run off I will do the same with a little more confidence. I am so confused to why its so hard to get good info. I even messaged the House and Garden reps as I considered switching and he told me to do 60% run off...

Now you know not to listen to sales reps when the first one wants you to fail with no runoff and the other one wants you to overfeed with excess runoff. Follow general recommendations you'll find from real growers on this site instead.
