Canadian Stuff

We all remember the days of leaving doors unlocked without a worry of intrusion or theft. There were also less people and less cultural diversity. Dad made $2.10/hr and gas was 38 cents a gallon (4.54 litres) in the early 70s. With his wages, he fed a family of 8. So I get how things seemed better then. With an hour's wages there was a full tank of gas which got him to work, church and a Sunday drive. Six kids crammed into a 64 Dodge. Good times!

Up into the late 80s the doors were never locked. Until one time when my brother came home late, there was a guy stark naked with his head in the garbage can, passed out and oblivious to his surroundings when awakened. Apparently his buddies pranked him, as they convinced him that he was home. We all got house keys after that. We never thought to blame the PM of the day for the invasion.

The evening news hasn't been watched in our house since the 90s during shock and awe in the George W days. Dismembered bodies was glorified/normalized, but heaven forbid we see a nipple at a halftime show. In that same timeframe was the last when the Sun newspaper was looked at - striclly for the sunshine girl.

Homelessness is complicated. Mental health and drug addiction is in all facets of society. And I get how you can't lead a horse to water. IMHO compassion goes a long way vs judgement and saying they should just get a job. Pretty hard to get a job without a resume, credentials, a fixed address, a bank account, transportation, etc. Being kind costs less than incarceration everyday. Anger issues can be helped with counseling and proper medication if there's a will. There's a ton of trauma out there, often through no fault of their own. But it's everyone's responsibility to heal from it in whatever way they find meaningfull.

As a bit of an empath, I love everyone and listen to people's stories. Often sympathizing for what they've gone through, and hoping that they heal from the things that no one ever apologized for.

Here's a meme that I found fitting. I've voted orange, green, blue and red. It's my character that defines who I am, not how I vote.

I get what you're saying but compassion only goes so far.
I have no compassion for criminals breaking into people's houses and killing them over a car. None for the guys running into jewelry stores smash and grabs. None for the dealers selling fentanyl, heroin and cocaine or the cartel smuggling people and guns/drugs across the border. You're right. Times change but liberal policies don't.
You speak on homelessness and how you have compassion for these people would you open your door to them? Since you are so compassionate? Would you lend a helping hand? And not just giving them 5bucks to go buy crack. I mean really putting yourself out there to help them? If not then your argument doesn't hold water. You FEEL sorry for them. That doesn't help the problem. You need to address the core issues like poverty, the fact that the liberals ruined so many people's lives through the COVID bullshit that now they have no where to live. Liberals do not care about these core issues. They like putting blankets over things and then blame someone else so they are never held accountable for their failed policies. You threw a stat at me earlier about how crime was 'only up 40%' but you were quoting a statistic that was crime overall. I was talking about violent crime. Which is up over 116%. Just wanted to make that clear.
The liberals are making Canada poor they are taking away our hard earned money to pay for their reckless spending. They won't bat an eye to add billions to the deficit and make you and your kids pay for it until they die, all while telling you what you can and can't do where you can and can't go under their tyrannical reign.
Why do we continue to let these globalist rich pricks run our countries? Talk about just like trump Carney is ultra wealthy. He's just another business man just like trump. He was not a member of parliament, and if he didn't call an election and the house resumed he would have had to sit in the viewing area. He was not an elected mp. Funny how they stuffed him into a liberal riding where he's almost guaranteed to win a seat regardless. Liberals are a joke. They will burn our country to the ground and happily reign over the ashes. They don't care what they do to us they just care that they are in power.

It's unfortunate you feel that way. Guns are only the tip of the iceberg. This government is overstepping their power. It's blatant. The point I'm trying to convey is that the government doesn't have the right to go into my house and take my property that I legally obtained. I used fishing as an example because who knows maybe they'll join up with peta and decide were all criminals for going and catching some fish with the boys. They've already done it to the firearm industry without care of the businesses, clubs and individuals this would impact. So why not other things too. It's always a 'well it's not happening to me so I don't care' mentality until they take something from you too and you feel the wrath of the liberal agenda. It would have been one thing if this was brought to parliament and voted on but they went about it in sneaky avenues and using fear as a tactic to gain traction on the subject.
I totally agree with you about trump. He's an idiot. But thats the hand we were dealt. A responsible government would have responded and figured out a solution rather than halting the house and calling an election and then the new pm who wasn't voted in by the people decides rather than dealing with it he will go to France and play around with his banking buddies. His little carbon tax order stunt where he signed an order 'repealing' the carbon tax.....i mean come on talk about taking a page outta Trump's books..... the prime minister doesn't even have the authority to sign orders in council only the governor general can so this stunt was purely performative just like trump. This isn't someone who cares about the well being of Canadians. How could trade with eu equal or even come close to the intricate trade between our borders. We don't even know what Trump wants for fucks sake. The liberals are keeping us in the dark and letting us suffer in the mean time, all while trying to scare people with this tarrif bullshit. This could have been all taken care of by now already if the liberals would lead instead of worrying about how the party is polling and if they will win and election or not so they can continue living extravagantly on the taxpayers dollars.
Of coarse there are far left and far right people in both parties. It's unfair to label the party as such because a few people think that way. I'm sure there's some liberals who believe the same thing too. What I'm saying is we can't let liberals continue their reign over Canada. It's costing us an insane amount of money and they don't seem to care, they don't mind tacking on billions of dollars into the deficit and taking it from you to pay the bills all while smiling in your face while they lie to you. Will pp be better? I think so. But I don't know either. I know that we need a change in the government. We need different ideas because the ones the liberals have are proven to not be working. I'm certainly never voting for old Jughead the guy can't even keep track of his own lies. Everything that guy says he goes back on. He's literally run that party into the ground and the dirty liberals keep tricking him and he keeps falling for it. Kinda like Charlie Brown kicking the football. It's pretty funny actually.
As far as overstep, the liberals had gun safety as an election issue, and were re-elected. Though they didn't have a clear majority, nonetheless they got more votes than the conservatives, NDP or Greens. So, not necessarily a mandate to act on the gun safety issue, they were the party with the most votes, and quickly formed a coalition with the NDP, making it a majority coalition. To me, that means that gun safety, and the way the liberals portrayed the issue, was part of a winning platform, meaning there were more people that were ok with action on guns than not. The fact that people who owned gunshops, firing ranges, etc, they took a business risk. The laws changed for the reasons I just stated. As far as governmental decisions that affect me, I've already mentioned the cons decision to go against the sentiments of voters, I implore you to familiarize yourself with the decision to allow coal mining on the eastern slopes of the rockies in southwestern Alberta. The issue was settled, but they reneged on the clear wishes of voters and twisted things so mining would be allowed. Whilst I can empathize with the liberals changing gun laws and causing those firearms to become illegal, your feelings are hurt, and maybe your pocketbook, but it will have no ill effect on your health. Excess selenium is bad for fish, and bad for your health, so IMHO, the cons decision is much more egregious as they are ignoring people's votes, and the health of the fish, and the health of the people downstream of the mines, and they work the same way with the oil and gas industry. All in the name of prosperity, meanwhile our province, supposedly the richest, contributes the least of any province to education. Our healthcare system is being torn apart in the guise of making it more efficient, while the real goal is to privatize as much as they can. You know, because they care about all the people, or no, mainly the rich ones. Maybe the liberals might be spending on those things, unlike the cons who would rather just cater to the richest. If you don't believe in education or healthcare, I guess spending money on those priorities might appear wasteful. I'm not trying to say those are your beliefs, I can't speak for you. Government should be more efficient, costs would be reduced, but I don't know what that looks like exactly.

I agree about Jagmeet Singh, I don't vote NDP federally, as I can't see a majority of Canadians following him. Especially in my neck of the woods. Too many racists in this area of the country. I do however vote NDP provincially and civically as I've had enough of the cons bs here, and know libs are hated, and other than Calgary and Edmonton, the libs hardly get a look. I don't know all the solutions, but agree people are suffering, and little seems to be changing for the good in that regard. I hope we're not talking past each other too much to recognize each other's viewpoint. I suspect we are a bit, as we seem to prioritize different things, in differing ways.

Our local conservative candidate.
No thanks.

In 2018, Lawton ran a failed campaign under Doug Ford’s Ontario PCs that was derailed by his history of controversial statements and extreme positions on a variety of sensitive issues like abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, Islamophobia and defending on-campus debates about Holocaust denialism.

Looks like little PP's biological clock is running out.
Seriously, how dumb do you have to be to reduce women to baby factories?

What a ridiculous little nothing of a man.

Edit: If you ever want to know what these creatures actually are, look at their views on reproduction. They want white women to be barefoot and pregnant so the "master race" doesn't get outbred by those "nasty" others. Fucking repulsive.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith told Breitbart News she had reached out to Trump officials to ask that the president put his tariffs on hold until after the Canadian election.

Her reasoning? The tariffs were giving a political advantage to the Liberals. Smith also told those same officials that Poilievre’s perspective was “very much in sync” with the Trump administration. If true, that is a political death warrant in this country.

You know, I really have to agree with jjgrow on some of what he is saying about some of the Liberals policies. To fully throw 100% behind their bad policy on immigration, crime etc. is wrong. It's just that the basics of the parties and their platforms still steer me away from the Conservatives and I don't believe that will change in the near to distant future. Changes need to happen just for the people of this country. It's much the same in the USA. Some of the democrats bad policies got them, and the rest of the country where they are today. It's just really unfortunate for not only America, but the rest of the world , that the only other choice will scar the country permanently. Some of the changes happening in the United States will be lasting and damaging, and I just hope the people can get more involved in their own democracy to save it. The alternative is unacceptable to most people of either political stripe.

If there was any doubt recently about where Wayne Gretzky's allegiance lie, (none in my mind), this will remove it for most I would think. Not collecting his "'Order of Canada" award years back was a bad sign, this confirms he's full on MAGA. With the obvious corruption behind the felon and his cabinet, it makes me wonder how far Gretzky has fallen. Actually, screw it, just going to state the obvious. Gretzky is a traitor to our country, and values.
