Can weed grow roots from its stem? (I think I planted too deep..)

I replanted my seedlings in better soil. Thought I would help them grow by planting right up to the leaves. (They were "stretchy".)

Was that a mistake?

Will the stem grow roots, or just rot? :o

I find it annoying if the leaves are too close to the soil, makes it harder to water.
I read somewhere that the stem will grow roots, but I haven't looked.

you can actually root a branch on the plant by making a cut in the stalk and putting a rapid rooter over the cut and then place a baggie over the rapid rooter and keep moist.I forget the details but should try it sometime. Although a little off topic :P

It's definitely nice to replant. I've related one of my plants many many times and its the strongest out of all of my plants.
