can someone please explain what nodes are

as above im gonna top my plant on the next grow i usually grow scrog but have never topped a plant before on my next grow im gonna top the plants the help bush them out ive been doing loads reading and thought im gonna top on the 4th node can some please do i quick and simple diagram manythanks

where the two branches break from the main stem

can also be one branch when plant has alternating nodes.most common when plants are ready to flower.
