Can someone enlighten me about pH fluctuations?

Hey guys, happy sunday. So, I'm growing in BioBizz LightMix. I water 3lt per plant(20lt/5gal fabs) every fifth day. Last time I watered was 27 Jan. That day I also poured 6lt of tap water in a bucket to let it sit for at least 24hours(for my next watering).

24 hours later (28Jan), I added my nutes to the bucket (Silica, Calmag, 1/2 strength epsom salts, biogrow, biobloom, 1tbsp of molasses) and the pH was a perfect 6.5.

24 hours later (29Jan) pH was still 6.5.

24hours later (30Jan) pH was at 5.3 and I pHed to 6.5

Today(31Jan) pH was again at 5.3 and I pHed to 6.5

I'm will be watering tomorrow, probably will have to pH again lol. Any ideas why this is happening? Also, do I even need to pH my solution in soil because it's pretty controversial topic.

TL;DR - pH of my solution keeps dropping, even after pH adjustments and do I even need to adjust pH when growing in soil?

That's going to happen as it settles.

Shit if you shake you solution after it has sat it will change the pH.

If you need to pH is dependent on a couple of things.

1 what soil is it? Not all are buffered.
2 what stage of life is the soil and have you used synthetic nutes?

Imo once in flower if using synthetic nutes I pH. Buffers only last so long. Bottled synthetic nutes kill microbes in the soil. So without pHing the solution it begins to get difficult for the plant to uptake some things.

Thanks man. Any ideas if LightMix has buffers? Plants have been growing in it for 83days as of tomorrow. I don't mind to pH. I really don't. But what's the point if it keeps dropping down? Should I try bottled water maybe or let the solution sit longer?

I don't understand the complex chemistry behind it but you need to mix and store it in bigger volumes, when I get low on my reservoir I drain it into a bucket and add it back to the fresh mix... Lol it brings down the ph a little.

The point is to give it to the plant when that pH is correct. Doesn't matter if it drops after. The proper pH when watering allows the plants to uptake nutrients right away.

If your concerned about chlorine then let it sit. Then add nutes, pH right away and water right away.

I dont let my water sit. But thats impatience on my behalf.

Awesome that's great news. From now on, i will just let tap water sit out for 24hours, mix nutes and water the plants right away! Cheers man!

If you stick an airstone in it, the PH will rise. Also, just an fyi, powdered vitamin C is an awesome dechlorinator, you just need to use a tiny amount per callon, like 30 mg, stir it in, and it works pretty much instantly. Works for chloramines too. I like to aerate my nutrient solution because the dissolved oxygen is beneficial, but always check and adjust the ph before feeding because it does change.

Omit the molasses. It is feeding bacteria that change your pH.

Put the ph pen away and just water/feed your plants

and yea i'd cut the molasses also since biobizz already has a ton of beet molasses in it to start

if I let my BB nute solution sit for 2 days it starts smelling bad - anaerob decay of biomatter - beware - deadly toxins may build up.
Just mix using warm water and feed directly, no need to pH BB nutes. Even on hard tap, if the nutemix is about neutral - perfect. As you can see the pH gets acidic each day by decomposition. That may happen right in your pot as well hopefully via the good guys.

You guys were unto something regarding molasses because as soon as I fed, some leaves turned to shit. Reminds me of calcium deficiency. I shouldn't have given any because I already feed calmag and half strength espom salts :wall:20210203_105959.jpg20210203_110007.jpg

Chlorine is not so bad, apparently it's something called chloramines...apparently they are nasty to mj.

I thought that was in reverse tbh. Thats something I learned about long ago. But it's been so long I forget which is bad. In over abundance.

I know the plant needs a certain level of chlorine as a micro nutrient. But too much causes these issues below.

I dont allow my water to sit at all. I fill it room temperature, add my nutes, pH it and feed.

Never had an issue at all.
