Can Somebody Please Tell Me If Trimming Some Fan Leaves Would be a Good Idea Here?

if im not mistaken on a scrog isnt the whole underside of the screen supposed to be gone at this point to get rid of all the sites that get no light and put all the energy in making colas at the canopy?? i have never done scrog but i do sog and i used to never trim and while i was getting "ok" yields (50% of which was popcorn/shake when dried) once i started lollypopping the entire lower 1/3-1/2 of my plants leaves and branches my yields blew WAY past what they where from pulling 1/2 oz per square foot to 2 oz's per square foot. of course i may be wrong (as i have never scrogged before) but every good scrog i have seen has had everything under the screen eliminated.
From my cloner I take the rooted clones and place them in my tables, veg maybe 6 days and flower. I place the screen ontop and during the stretch they mend they're way thru. I've never cut much of anything below the screen fearing I am going to loose yeild by doing so. Even those smaller buds on the bottom are still weight. So in theory is to cut everything from underneath the screen and I'll have larger colas as a result? Does that stress them out while in bloom? Is there any thread links with more info I can follow? This is week 3 for me..

One thing i did learn from my scrog, is that having more smaller branches means, more little buds from a plant, but no BIG buds. Lets face it , BIG ass buds are what we want man. Always get rid of scrawny little branches before flowering.

You have got to be kidding....................Fan leaves are the very thing that produces photosynthesis, and are the very thin that is producing the buds, cutting them off is like cutting off buds. The only leaves that need to come off are the spent ones ie yellow or pale green as they have done they're job. As far as air flow is concerned that is a problem with your room NOT the plants you need to address the air flow in the room. The majority of pests come about due to higher temps and they do not munch on dead fall, If you are worried about pests your room should be below 75f, room temp is the best pest deterant not dead fall. Remember ALL plants grow leaves for a reason...................

Ok, that may be true, but when growing in a crowded space certain alterations to the canopy have to be made in order for there to be enough light to reach the lower buds. If i didn't thin out the fan leaves at the top I have gotten no light to about 30% of my yeild as a lot of branches were bunched up.

Word. I had to do some minor upper-canopy surgery as well earlier today. I pretty much figure if it's for the greater good....then how can it be a bad thing? I'll check back. Keep em comin ;)

buds are looking BOMB bro, good shit..what strain is that again?
It's MK-Ultra from THSeeds. Still waiting for tricomes to change. Most have only turned milky in the last couple of days. One plant has all pistols changed and i'm still waiting on the tricomes. This microscope is paying off big time. I must have always been harvesting way too early.

Best thing to do is trust your own instinct observe and learn
the great thing about growing weed is it is a live experiment
so from time to time put the ed rosenthal grow manuals down,
and let the plant teach YOU what it likes

personally i remove leaves and branches from my plants

I have concluded from my own observations over the years that most strains really benefit from this practice in my grow room, with my method of growing

it is quite rare but on some occasions removing smaller leaves, those leaves that have very short stem lengths can cause distorted re-growth so i tend to avoid picking off smaller leaves ,

i view my garden as a collection of branches each fighting for the light, each branch will act for itself, it will not move to allow its neighboring branch to get access to light..
so training is needed.. bending pruning all methods are open to me

i generally thin out the leaves over the whole area .. i do not look at it as individual plants, but as i said a collection of branches, all fighting for the light, i will tie them into the light, and remove some leaves, to allow each branch to form a long cola
the buds are able to regrow any leaves they need in a very quick time,

when plants are grown very close together, or very bushy plants, to allow the light to more evenly penetrate the top and middle portions of the plant, help to produce more even colas over the whole area

some others share this view too

a quote from the guys at dna genetics about their strain LA woman

from seedfinder

"Don`t be afraid to thin the large fan leaves in the 5th week or so. This will allow the light to penetrate the canopy and reach the lower sites and will be replaced within a week"

personally looking at the picture of the OP i would have to pick some leaves off there, i just couldn't allow all those leaves to block the canopy like that

perhaps someone can post some pictures of some plants that had some leaves picked off and as a direct result damage occurred

anyway ill post some pics of my well picked HEALTHY plants below..... :blsmoke:

@skunkd0c I'm gonna look for some of that sweet-tooth next man. It looks like an incredibly large yielder. How was the smoke after? You current run looks very well taken care of also. I found some mould in one of my larger buds today and was the reason some leaves were turning yellow. I opened up the bud by cutting off one of the flowers, so the inside of the bud can get some direct light and air flow. Would anybody recommend doing anything else? Humidity hits over 60 during the dark period but it's nice and dry once the lights pop on.
