(RS)Ha, no man, don't be too sensitive, I didn't see how some of you are helping the OP, but that's ok.
I'm not familiar with the new A51 cobs coming out, need 2x sgs160 to cover that space? Anyhow..
Organic/ soil grown is cool too, the slow lane (iv'e found) but suits my style

I'll play nice I was talking about what I know about growing I'm a hydro indoor organic outdoor kinda guy. I have a greenhouse grow coming up soon and will be implementing 10 per sqft cob's for the winter for year round grow. I can't wait for the Maxyield Expo show this year and confront the disco light guys and show them my lights lol it's July 25-26. I'll be getting free shit to test to see if it works or not. You should go through the threads I've started not just you but eveyone on here and you'll see.

That's it I really don't like you never have but people on here do and hate me wow. I own more than that. I haven't even put them together yet and your friend is an idiot who doesn't know how too grow I got 2-1/2 pound off of 40 sqft with 4 Mars lights lol
You know, I really don't give a fuck what you like or not.

And I'm betting my friend has a higher iq than you it just that he knows nothing about growing.

Sorry for the late reply it's my sons 24th B-day. I'm loved and hated on here because I say what I feel. I use to grow for a dispensary using HPS and I've used lesser quality leds with good results but the area you gave me I would go led and not look back and if you can make one I'd suggest do it or buy an A51.
Note this is just flower area. Believe it or not I had considered led when I first built this room but tech was no where near today's standards. I understand the efficiencies and pros of using LEDs that's why I was acctually asking if it could out produce my current system, I think people just assumed I was here dick and ruler in hand. At the moment I don't have the spare time to build a cob unit or else I would be building one for my veg cab. Instead I'm gonna buy one of these

What you think?
At £900 it's a big step up from my old t5 lightwave or even my flowering system.

I think it's clear now that I probably won't beat my yield just by changing lights. I would however massively reduce electrical draw, radiant heat, plus I'd be replicating my current spectrum with an all in one unit which is very tempting but at the same time I'd have to add a dehumidifier and a heater and control for these.

To be honest I know in the future il make a full change, but that won't be until the correct technology is available at the right price.

i think at the moment the best chance of increasing yield with my chosen strains will be with co2.

When I eventually move to a house on the beach il build my new room and probably build a good unit or buy one to fit my new needs.

Since posting this thread ive noticed a lot of people that think just any led unit is better than hid and also people who are either too nostalgic or stubborn to admit led will be the future of horticultural lighting. Unless something better comes along before then.

I wouldn't pull the trigger on any LED setup without really knowing specific details on led model numbers used, flux bins, and drive current, then efficiency can be approximated.

Also, most of us DIY builders use 100% warm white leds (usually 3000k 80cri). It'd be hard to recommend something so high in red and blue with so little "white".

Take a look at this thread to get an idea of how efficient various white cobs are at different drive currents.

https://www.rollitup.org/t/cob-efficiency-spreadsheets.865238/

The ways to get higher radiant efficiency is to drive at lower currents, run newer models, higher flux bins. The difference in efficiency is huge, between 15-65% from crappiest leds overdriven to best leds underdriven, so it's less important that you're using diodes to grow, and more important that the efficiency is greater than or equal to the efficiency of HPS. "the perfect spectrum" is secondary to efficiency and uMol/J.

What's frustrating is when so many people insist on buying something ~25% efficient (mars, kind) hoping for results they saw from a member who built something 40% efficient. (diy vero 18 at 700mA) and coming to the conclusion that LED's can't compete with HID. It's really hard to beat a fresh 600W HPS lamp in terms of efficiency, and those new double ended ones have even higher efficiency (upto 42%). Make sure whatever you replace it with can actually beat it, or what's the point?

Thanks for the warning, is there Any out of the box led systems you would reccomend for a veg cab. Yeah I'm in agreement that white light is where it's at. That's why I like those cmd lamps they have a warm white and a cool white.
