My first plant someone's found before it even had buds is it doomed or can I save it

Look like some animals ate it. If so they will be back.

Cage it if possible- chicken wire / whatever . Shoot growth is there and it is growing.

I'd put up a game camera and find out who or what it was in addition to the cage to protect it. Looks like deer based on the edges but if it was a person that chopped it out of malice, I'd want them on camera.

There's no chance I'd continue for someone to help themselves to my weed.

If i was sure it's someone rather than something I'd move it.

I've since pulled it and potted it moved it to a better location, hopefully it doesn't die on me

I think you did the right thing in moving it, it's amazing what they bounce back from it'll be fine.
