I'm wondering if I can just hang my light all the way up. I'm afraid their gonna stretch. But I have a 400 watt mh/hps. In a 27x27x71 inch tent. 71 inch high(5'11). There's so much reflection I don't know how they would stretch. But I think thu will. And one be able tell me? I want my plants to grow faster' lol but no stretch. Their already getting their sets of 7 leaves

If you train it good you can prevent stretch.. Alot of growers hang their 1000 watters about 4 feet over plants that are in Veg.. At least I do.. I use to use only floro's for veg but have to many plants now a days

I have to assume this is NOT an air cooled light fixture. I think you will have temp issues using a 400w MH/HPS light inside a tent that size unless you have an air cooled hood. When I ran a 400w, I liked it about 2 feet above the canopy.......but thats only if you can keep the temps around the mid to upper 70's. Do some dry runs and see what the temp is inside the tent and at different distances from the light. If not an air cooled light, make sure you have several fans moving air around.....I will say if you try to run that light in a tent that sized with no exhaust or fresh air intake, the temps will climb way to high. 90+ easy

any reason why you don't want to adjust the light?? You'll get wayyy more out of your light if you keep it closer IMO.

Because its really hot So I dont want me plants having heat stress
Whats really Hot? Do some test runs and take some temps.....then when you have some Data, get back to us with details and if there is an issue you will get an answer. The more we know the better someone can answer.

As far as Ideal temps..75 degrees F, is perfect. I dont like to go over 80 at the top of the canopy......so find out what the temps are at different distances from the light, run the tent a few days with everything in it expect the plants. I find that keeping the temps low (75-77) with lots of fresh air movement, is better then running temps above 80 and having more lumes at plant level. The hotter it is the more water they use and the more likely you are to burn them and or cause heat stress.

Without my fans it gets over. 120+ with my fan it's like 95. I need another intak fan to balance ou my exhaust.

Sounds like you need more exhaust not more in-take air, you should be running at least a 4" inline fan @ 160cfm+, I would run a 6" fan @ 400cfm and you will see temps in the 70's. Does the tent have vents in the bottom? Are they open? What kind of light hood are you using? Any pics of the set up? I run my tent with a negitive pressure, meaning that the sides of the tent are slighly sucked in from the amount of exhaust air that is venting out, I bring fresh air in by venting the bottom of the tent...pulling cool air in from the bottom and exhausting hot air out from the top, I also have a fan inside the tent to move air/plants arund. I assume you are only runnng the MH bulb now, need to remember that the HPS will run a bit hotter than the MH. I started with a tent your size, ran a 400w MH/HPS, with one 4" 160cfm exhaust fan, passive intake, and a fan side to move air and had no issues keeping temps in the lower 80's. You have to get the temps down below 90.....the better your temps are the easier and less issues you will have, less stress, less water, less nutes, healthier plants:leaf:
