Can I...?

I've got a single 1000w HID with a ballast thats 120v/240v compatible. Im curious if I can plug it into my dryer plug? It's on a 30A circuit and has a dual 30A breaker. I read online that its not safe to run regular 15-20 amp appliances on a 30 amp circuit. Obviously Im just trying to run my light more efficiently but I certainly dont want to burn my crib down either. Thanks for any input!!!

I figured I could plug the ballast into a 240v timer and piece together a cord with the appropriate male and female plugs to adapt to the dryer receptacle. Am I way off here? Doable? Not doable? I know I could hard wire a sub box into the 30A circuit but I dont have the extra cash for that and im only trying to run a single light.

it should run with no problem on a 30amp circuit, it will trip the breakers if there is a problem, if it doesnt you are good to go...
