Can I Use A Sponge Instead of Rock wool?

Hey guys,

So there is no Hydro stores in my area, personally I don't feel like buying it online and waiting a week for it to be delivered, long story short can I use a sponge as rockwool in my DWC grow?

Depends what kinda of sponge it is but i feel like the roots wouldnt be able to penetrate it....ive never tried it tho
