that is pretty cheap.. I used to know a website that you could search for companies and see if there legit but dammit I cant remember the name of it.. That site has a phone number though.. I'd def call em and "feel them out" first.. And prolly have it delivered to an alternate adress if possible.

Better make sure its a "ballast in a box" and not just the nakie ballast :o

well shit, if all i need is the housing, a cord, and a socket, still seems like a good deal to me. But you did not explain why i wont know what to do with it. yeah, i'm new, dont have any grows under my belt, but i'm sure i could figure it out with a little help from you, since you must know something about it. and man, i have no idea how to post a link like that, how do you do that?

Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed you wouldn't know what to do with it. I assumed that since you couldn't tell that was just a kit by looking at it you didn't have any experience in electrical wiring. It's fairly simple but if you screw up your whole house could come down in a whiff of electrical smoke.

And you're right, building your own is cheaper as long as you aren't prototyping. Just like building your own computer is cheaper; if you know how to build a computer.

I say go for it but a word of advice before you start buying parts, figure out EVERYTHING you need, I mean map out your entire grow. Draw a simple picture of all the parts you need, price them, then figure out if it's worth building yourself or not.

Oh, and stay away from digital ballasts, they are noisy as hell (electrically).

Hey, thanks a lot for taking the time to breathe some wisdom on me kludge. I'm so damn excited to start my first grow, I want it to be big and organized. But like most of the rookies on here, I'm getting ahead of myself and just blurting out questions that have probably been asked and answered a thousand different times. And I keep changing my mind about where and how I'm going to do this. I also found this place that sells grow lights ready to plug in, so I'm gonna try and post the link here. http://www.htgsupply.com/growlightsubcategories.asp?categoryID=1
