well, its not what you should use, its weak, and processed
Blackstrap molasses is the best, not just plain unsulphured
Really Grandma's is less 'processed' than blackstrap: blackstrap has been boiled three times as you mentioned hence the higher concentration of minerals. Grandmas is 2nd molasses if I am not mistaken. It does have a mineral content, blackstrap molasses just has a somewhat higher mineral content and some more of the sucrose has been removed.

So I can use either.. just the blackstrap has more nutes in it?

Grandma's is just the brand name. I buy Grandma's Unsulphered Blackstrap Molasses, so it is everything that is good. Whoever says Grandma's is better or worse has no clue, it's just the brand name, the important bit is that it be unsulphered.

The concentrations of plain unsulphured molasses cause you to add more if you are in it for the micronutes. That then adds a ton more sucrose, which is good in moderation but can cause problems if left for a period of time in the medium. That is why blackstrap is better, you have to add less, get more micronutes and limit the residual sucrose in the soil which feeds the microbes and also attract a lot of other pests and after a while fungus. Unsulphured molasses has, in comparison, a lot of complex sugars which are not easily processed by the soil microbes. The third round of heating greatly reduces the quantities of those complex sugars (heat breaks them down), as well as less sugars in general. It is far superior to use blackstrap molasses regarding its sugar type content and its nutrient concentration. All I was trying to stress if that if you spend 2.95 on grandmas unsulphured, then you might as well spend 4.80 on blackstrap and actually get the full noticeable benefit.

Yes, blackstrap is more processed, I was mistakingly comparing it to sulphured molasses mentally.

No, you mix a teaspoon in with a gallon of water that you are about to water with. If the water is warm you wont have mix it that much, but if it is cold it takes some shaking to get it dissolved. Then you just pour the water in and you got molasses in your medium for microbes to feast upon.

Don't look at the name of the product look at what type it is. To get the full benefit you need BLACKSTRAP UNSULPHURED MOLASSES. Most health stores carry it. You can buy it by the bucket at any IFA Co-op.
