:leaf:i want to start flowering because i dont have room for them to veg anymore. most of them are up to their seventh node. and my small ones are lowriders and they flower under any light regiment. but all my big plants are white widows and bag seed. so im wondering if i can start the 12/12 light regiment. and start flowering. and can anybody tell me how you start the flowering period. like do i shock them with 24 hours of light. and the do the 12/12. please someone help me:leaf:

You can just switch it right to a 12/12 cycle or gradually decrease it an hour or so each day till 12/12. But if you're out of room for veg right now then you're definitely not gonna have any room for flowering. They grow, a lot, in flower.

You can go ahead and flower them now by just simply switching the light schedule to 12/12. However there will be some stretch in early flower ther are products on the market that will aid in keeping the stretch to a minimum. Bushmaster made by Emerald Triangle is one such product. Also a good transitioning nutrient product is recommended. I prefer Bud Blood made by Advanced Nutrients. With an NPK of 0-39-25 the plants transition into flower quickly. Used only in the first week of flower. Then switching to your bloom nutrients the rest of the way out. Good luck.:joint::mrgreen:

just switch straight to 12/12 or give them 24 hours of darkness an then go 12/12 iv found this helps to sex the plants faster but if your already outa room youv got problems cos there gonna atleast double in size by the end of flowering

no i know i need more room. but thats what im saying. im saying if i stop vegging now i feel like ill have just enough room for them to flower. i feel like if i let them veg and get bigger then when they flower i will really be in trouble. you know. but it is alright to flower them if they are up to their 6th node. i dotn know if they r male or female yet.?

Wow man, if you're already out of room, you're going to be screwed when you switch them to 12/12, because they're going to double in size(at least).lol It might be a good idea to read up on some LST or supercropping techniques.

Also, you can switch them straight to 12/12. You could try using a dark period to get them started, but i never have, and they always go right into bloom and start 'the stretch' within a couple days. It's up to you, many ways work well.

yeah, then if you think you'll run out of room, then flower it now, don't risk it. And no, you won't know sex till flower

You're gonna run out of room unless you lst. If your plant is 10 inches high, theres a possibility of it getting to 40 inches depending on strain. Indicas usually 2 times the height, so if you're at 10 inches add 20 inches.

soo if my plants are a foot tall i should add two feet to it now and then that should be the aprox finish hieght?

It depends on the strain, Indica's usually finish 2 times the height. Meaning if you flower at 12" expect to fisnish off at 36"
If it's more sativa dominant expect it to be 48 inches or more. Now I'm not saying this is the case with all strains, but this is just a ballpark figure. It could more or less.

hello everyone! i'm a newb and am currently on my first grow and i'm growing only for personal use. i have a two bulb flourescent fixture which works pretty good for the money i have in it but will kinda limit me on how much light i can give my plants. my plants are approx between 6 and 10 inches tall (i have no idea what kind they are as i just picked them outta some of my stash) and the bigger ones i am already starting to have trouble keeping the whole plant under good lighting. i don't want them to get to big and bushy IF possible for good stealth and the fact that i just want to use these as a learning experience for something better next time :) my question to you all is how soon can i flower them? how big do they have to be?

you can basically flower fro 4 weeks on. whenever you first start to see the preflowers is the best time to strat flowering. they should be on the forth or fifth node. right next to the two stipul on the stem. the male is a small ball looking seed like thing and the female is a lil oval ball with two hairlike pistils coming out of them. usually a milky white. that is when u know its time to start flowering. but you can start at anytime after four weeks. thats whta im doinf because of space issues.

Hey Jim, just a suggestion, but have you thought about possibly topping those plants? That way they will bush out instead of go straight up. You could probably top, veg another 1-2 weeks then flower. You'd get a lot better yield that way imo. You know what kind of room you have though.

Well after looking at those pics again, it already looks a little bit crowded. I'm not sure if you can make more horizontal room or not?? If not, just go ahead and throw those babies into 12/12. Very, very healthy looking plants you have.
