What else is recommended for top soil besides perlite and worm castings? Topsoil isn't that bad to use if you mix other amendments with it.

Reason why I ask is because I'm going to grow with topsoil since its cheap and effective if mixed in properly with appropriate additives.

Oh, btw, where do you get worm castings. I don't think Wally world has it.... I'm going to try 60%top soil 30%perlite and 10%wormcasting if all else fails.

topsoil is on the heavy side for potted plants. The pearllite will help, but its still a bit "thick".

Thanks for the note bro, any solid advice with working 'with' topsoil rather than around it personally? I went ahead and got some bone and blood meal to mix in as well. I couldn't find the worm castings...

just go shop around at your local feed and supply store, if they dont have them then they definatly know where to get them. its way cheaper than buying them online. i got a 30 lb bag of worm castings for 17$

Don't use top soil in a container. The roots will be compacted. By adding water you'll pretty much be creating cement. You want the roots to be able to breath. Top soil will choke them. As others said go to Lowes or Home Depot. I noticed the latter now carries Pro Mix(several forms).
