I am going to be growing under 6 T5 high output lights (they use ballasts)
but id like to take a clone off each plant (6 plants in total) root it and force it to flower to determine the sex of the plant it came from so i can destroy the males earlier in the grow.

would 1 23W CFL do the job? (Id only flower 2-3 clones at a time) would it be enough light to get them to show sex?

i think you can. with that low light intensity it may take a few more days to show sex then normal. but i think you can.

Hi buda...

by the time you clone and root and flower the clone you can actually grow the mothers big enough to flower them....

why do you need to know the sex now?
Are you going to take clones of the plants that you find out are female?

If I were you.. I would just take a shit load of clones from all your plants and mark which mother/father plant they came from... and them flower your plants.... the plants that turn out to be male will need their corresponding clones thrown away...

It creates more work, but it saves time...

knowm you are right but maybe the situation is different. i know at the beginning i could not grow a shit load of clones do to space issues. i think you are right just in saying grow what you got now. not only will it take the same time as taking the clones, it is good experience seeing things through.

oh btw knowm, nice to see u again. LOVE

Clones grow and flower quicker their parents so thats that........, and you don't have to let the mature plants keep growing, i was under the impression that you wanted to flower the clones, to determine the sex of the parent plants, which could be a faster sexing option, i've rooted a clone in nine days with just regular water, so a cloning solution would make it root faster, then you could straight into cloning......but as much as i have this question today, im just wondering why you and the others who are asking this question, don't just sex the parent plants before you start cloning and so forth......doesn't seem to be alot easier my friend? Sex the parent, save yourself some time.......
