Can I cut fan leaves during veg?

My plant is about 15 inches high and has all sorts of new shoots that come out just under the fan leaves, however the fan leaves seem to be blocking the light for these new shoots and the stem from the shoot to the main plant are getting very long to get to the light.

I'm worried that if these shoots get to long trying to find light they will get weak and break during flowering.

If pics are needed I can post some no problem.

Open to all opinions and options.

Removing them would be my last choice, based on my own at 15" I'd tie them/it over to open it up to light and even out the growth.

A picture would help.

The plant needs them or they wouldn't be there,they store nutrients it will need,only cut them off if they are almost brown,you will slow it's growth.

I do selectively trim off fan leaves in veg to let light into the canopy, for the same reason you are saying. If you take off too many all at once, it can stress out the plant. I do it selectively, just so light will hit some of the lower growth shoots.

In my opinion, you can cut a few fan leaves from here and there. I don't go crazy myself, the plant does need the fan leafs to gather light for it survival. If a fan leaf is yellow it's gone, but if it's nice and green and healthy, I think it should stay.

I trim fan leaves off all the time in veg, you can tuck them but if that wont work then removing a fan leaf wont hurt the plant at all, as long as it has more leaves.

I pull healthy green fan leaves off all the time, if it can't be tucked and is shading another site or preventing airflow then its got to go.

I wonder how these plants managed to grow for thousands of years without someone trimming off the fan leaves. It's amazing they survived.

There might be a bit of a difference from todays "pampered" plants vs wild plants that grew thousands of years ago..

Don’t trim unless you have good vibrant growth coming in to replace what you take.
There are limited negatives to not taking and a whole world of problems that could arise from whacking….
That said I’m running a couple of photos in coco and the growth has been rapid…..they are 5 weeks from sprout and I’ve taken off more than u can imagine. But things are dialed in and they’re rolling. That isn’t always the case.

In some ways yes the clones that can only survive indoors adapted to low light conditions and stuff in that regard yes but cannabis also isnt a super domesticated crop either yet just what we grow indoors obviously just has a shallower genetic pool than say true landrace domesticate types


And op you can trim some fans that shade my advice is to only take em off if you have to long as its healthy and you only take off a little it should bounce back id only consider it if and when required
