The less gear you bring, the happier you will be...less time packing, unpacking, fixing, searching.
Just throw up a big tarp, build a fire, pass out knives and flashlights to the kids, drag the cooler over and you're done, plenty of entertainment watching other folks dragging stuff out and setting up.

Depends how far your campsite is from your vehicle so... Plenty of water in gal jugs (you can't have too much), steaks for sure, roll of heavy duty aluminum foil, plastic silverware (the heavy duty stuff), heavy duty foam plates, wet wipes, TOILET PAPER and PAPER TOWELS. When you exit your car to go set your camp up, leave all the phones and stuff in the car and do without. Insect repellent (DEET but watch it around anything plastic), trash bags, lawn chairs, stuff for seymours. Good flashlights and new batteries. I always took a couple of big plastic tarps as well. First aid kit of some type. Axe or hachet, make sure it's sharp. Some 550 cord

I remember having a fan in the tent one real hot humid night. Even that little bit of air made a big difference.

Yeah, I bought a rechargeable fan light combo. My buddies already went once this year and that's the one thing they lamented was how hot it got and how they wish they'd brought a fan. Coincidentally it was the same weekend I booked the wife and I's trip to the casino resort. So we didn't go then. And they only went 1 night, not the whole weekend. So should be a good time. I'm about to walk through the dollar store and see if anything strikes my fancy.

I have a Primus stove a backpacker in Yosemite gave me in 1978 because he had two and needed the space
I also have an Optimus stove I got at a yard sale for like $3
They both work great and will run on almost any fuel- I ran Bacardi 151 in the Primus to heat up a can of beans once when I was drunk and hungry

Those multiple fuel stoves are great because you can tell the cops or park ranger your moonshine is Ethanol for the cooker lol.

I went modern with a Jetboil but have an old double burner duel fuel Coleman stove that I use for quick meals instead of the cast iron and fire pit. The Jetboil has a coil under it that speeds up the heating so it boils water in just over two minutes. I need my coffee when I need it

I love the older stoves and the flat folding, wood fed stoves too. The craftsmanship and engineering is impressive by today's standards.
