Cal Mag substitutes?

Alright guys, back with another odd question :P

I need to amend my soil with cal mag, BUT I don't have the option of getting any gardening specific cal mag supplements or limestone / epsom salts etc... SO I have to improvise.

I have mineral supplement tablets (those meant for human consumption) of Magnesium (Magnesium Aspartate) and pure calcium tablets, If i powder those and mix them into my soil, will it be of benefit to my plants? In short, I learned that Magnesium used for plants comes in a Sulfate form, will Aspartate form work too?

Also, my Calcium tablets are enriched with Vitamin D (which as far as I know aids the human organism in absorbing the Calcium), is Vit D beneficial to plants too?

Hope I can get some feedback on that :)

Another thing, what else can I use to organically boost the calm/mag in my soil? I hear oyster shells are a good start, AMIRITE?

Another option is using my local bottled mineral water that has 37mg / litre magnesium and 18mg / litre of Calcium, will that cut through the foreseen cal/mag deficiencies?

hei, check my journal I had some similar experiences. I used Calcichew at a point to treat the Ca deficit. I wrote some things there about vitamin D to plants and everything. What I can say to you now is to search at a pharmacy for pure tablets, no other additives. Calcium Lactate pills. For magnesium...just search at any health shop, they will have epsom salt (use 1 full spoon per gallon of water) Or...if you have an electric coffee grinder, just grind some egg shells into fine dust and mix with water (it will be slow, but it has calcium) bottom line...it's better to be prepared when growing. So...try to buy some proper juices. As a temporary thing, you can use what I said above. Best of luck

I use liquid cal/mag (the human kind)! I 'm starting week 5 flower and I have had no problems yet with a cal/mag def. I just mix a tbsp in a gal of RO water at every other feeding.

Alright folks, so here is what I'm gonna do:>Powdered Eggshells added to the soil mix>Powdered Charred chicken bones (I'm a cook so got plenty of those laying around from every time I make stock :P) Added to the soil mix>Ground up Calcichew and Magnesium tablets with Vit D3 added to the soil mix>Quick fixing with some expensive hispter Evian Mineral water if I still come across Cal/Mag defficiencies.Thank you all for helping out! +Rep to ya'all and may the lord bless your weeeee plants for generations to come :P bongsmilie
