Cabinet LED

Yo dudes.
Currently building a small cabinet. Dimensions 4ft high 2.6 wide and 1.4 deep. Will be growing with a DWC method.
Have decided to go for LED lighting and am looking to buy a 600w blackstar but not too sure if this will be enough or possibly even too much for a small space?? Does anyone have any experience with these lights in a cabinet or small tent?
Also will these lights be sufficient for my grow from seed to harvest? Dont really want to have to spend more money veg and flowering lights or have to add secondary CFL's.
Any advice or suggestions welcome. No LED brand bashing though please, just constructive useful advice, I've read enough BS about LED's already.

Thanks and peace out.

HYDRO , AFRCN FREE 1 WEEK INTO FLWRG.jpg...............CLOSET SHOT (2).jpg...............HYDRO , AFRCN FREE.jpg...............HOME MADE BUBLER HYDRO SETUP.jpgi find the mix of led and cfl works really well for me and the plant seems to lean more towards rhe led than the cfl here are some pics

HYDRO , AFRCN FREE 2 WEEKS.jpg also im using daylight led's no red and blue.

Interesting, Nice setup by the way dude. So no red or blue but your girls are looking pretty healthy with the cfls. Im kinda hoping to find one light that will see me from seed through to harvest. Hoping the Blackstar's will do it, im tracking a cheap 600w on ebay just now, however if the price gets out of hand im considering a new 240w. Done a lot of lurking both here and over at LedBudGuy but cant find much info or any journals in a smaller sized cabinet growing solely with LED.

Good luck and thanks for the input bro. Peace.

To be honest, that's way too big of a blackstar for that space. Not only is it too big for width and depth but that height is to low for a panel of that intensity. A Blackstar 240 will do that area at maximum performance or any other panel that doesn't go beyond 180 watts of actual draw. LED's work great in confined spaces so you should jam that area out!

Forgot to mention that the flowering Blackstars veg like a champ and you have full control of node spacing when raising and lowering, No CFL's needed!

Mesa you are a champion! Fantastic advice and confirms what I was suspecting. Thought id get a good price on the 600w BS at auction but it blew out to well over my budget. A 2011 model 240wis BS was my second option and hope it will do my space nicely as id like not to have to add aditional CFL's. Construction of my box will be completed tomorrow and hopefully have a journal up by the end of the week.

Thanks again, your threads and posts have helped me several times over the last few weeks. Full respect duder.

Peace out.

Just a thought, do you think i could get away with a 180w BS. The price difference isnt huge but its enough to be worth considering.

The 180 watt BS only pulls an actual 85 watts. The 240 would be better for you. I have a 240 watt BS, a 300 watt HTG (garbage), and a 290 watt GLH.

If you can afford it, the GLH is the way to go, it is the best performer of all my current lights (grams per watt). The new 180 watt would be great for your area.

Thanks! I'm glad I was of help and am looking forward to your journal, I'm doing a calibration grow right now...not sure if I'm going to make it into a journal or not because the purpose of it is to experiment to find out what works best so yield isn't the goal but when I do start the official grow it will be Purple Skunk or Purple widow, I have a feeling the lack of heat from LED's will add to helping colorize the purple genetics. :P

Forgot to mention that calling Gotham Hydro directly is your cheapest option, You will at least get $20-$30 off plus free shipping. Ask for Victor he gives the best deals.

Not in the US so probably will have to order from their ebay store. Still waiting on water farm to arrive, seeds are here, gonna kick off with Hawaiian Snow and Super Silver Haze. Definately gonna grab the 240w BS but thinking of using my freinds 125w cfls's to get a headstart and swap them out for my LED once it ships.

an interesting read .....
https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/432283-blackstar-240w-led-dissected-upgraded.html
I almost bought blackstars but came across this in my research, scared me away. Look for the part where he dissects the board and finds out the "3w chipsets" are actually two watt chipsets. I have no problem with a company advertising the true capacity of their chipsets even if the diodes aren't driven to that wattage, but to flat out lie saying they have 3w chipsets and to open one up and find they are 2w chipsets. That's pretty bad.

I have a friend who ran a 240w Blackstar and a 180w Advanced Extreme Flower side by side and ALL of his plants grew towards the Advanced, with bigger, better, heavier buds from under the AEF. Does the Blackstar have UV and infrared bulbs like the Advanced? Does any other brand? Im in a 3x3 tent with my 180w Advanced LED with 9 plants and they all respond to the light very well. About $500 for the 180w, but IMHO, well worth it if you want LED.

Hydro hut Pro-Grow use IR diodes. Advance is also a stellar product, so is GLH. You should do yourself a favor and avoid blackstar. They use questionable (at best) business practices, have trolls on boards pimping their lights and bashing others, and most def do not use the cree chipsets they advertise. Also a 1 year warranty, give me a break. These lights should last 50k hours. IMO if they had faith in their product they would advertise the correct chipsets and offer a decent warranty.

look at GLH Spectras, Advanced, Stealth, Hydro Hut, or Pro-Source all of which cost more money. You really do get what you pay for with led lights, including a warranty that lasts longer than 12 months. Before I drop someone $200 I want to know I'm covered for at least the next three, in the case of the Spectras for the next 5 years. For reference I own Spectras and Pro Grows from Hydro-Hut. Having used both the rock pretty hard.

I would get a 240w for sure...
.Blackstars may misslead people by there wattage but there are alot of journals with great buds and NO complaints..And they're the cheapest most realiable from what i've seen, i dont do LED's yet, but im only gonna use as additional/ side lighting..Plan In October to use 2x 240w blackstar and 1 600w quatum dimmeable ballast for 6 plants..Blackstars r fiine for the dough and to be honest some that cost over a grand the people havent been happy with it..GL
Blackstar troll on the prowl. Everyone listen to me I've never used them before and here is what i have to say! Way to defend and justify a purchase you may make while leading others down the rabbit hole.

Nice info sharing! I always wondered.how the bs240s stacked up against my advanced 180...i figured the advanced extreme flowers would outperform, now I have a little insight.
