Cab show-off & clearance question

Hey guys, I just received my new LED fixture in the mail and I mounted it up. I love it already. Here are some pics!





Ok, now on to my question. The container you see in the pictures is a little more than two gallons. I plan on doing a little scrog action in it. I have allotted 6" of space above the container for watering. In other words, I will be placing my screen at 6" above the container.

From the top of the container to the light is 20". Minus 6" for the screen, that leaves me with 14". California Lightworks recommends a minimum of 12".

Now, I know that my cola's will exceed that 12" mark. How tall do cola's from scrogs get? Aside from genetics, will my cola's be too close to the light fixture? If I assume a cola height of 6" (I have no clue), then my cola's will be within 8" of the fixture.

Is this too close?

If you go 12/12 from seed or grow an auto strain you will have the best luck as space goes. the cab looks very clean, I like the light as well. If you veg your plant to long you will end up having to trim some off worst case.

I don't think thats a major issue as LED don't put out much heat.

Great! Thanks for the reply. I spent a lot of time on the cab. I used an old plastic garden cabinet I had in my shed. It took a lot of Reflectix and aluminum tape. It's a great first effort, and I plan on using it as a cloner in the future.

This will be my first grow. I'll give 12/12 from seed a shot.

yeah id go with the 12/12 with a SOG. You could probably fit 8 small pots in there and use feminized seeds.

Also, if stealth isnt your main concern or an issue, you could cut a square hole in the top of the box so the light is technically outside the box giving you a few more inches or room. If you still wanna keep it hidden but it isnt a priority, Id build a small box around the light and hook up a small pc fan just to pull off excess heat since itd be enclosed.

Also how many watts is that light??

I'd love to do SoG, but I'm dealing with bagseed, about 12 in total. I guess it could work fine, but I'll have to do some more reading on it since I'm new to all this. I will definitely check it out!

I actually have a hole in the top of the box already. I was going to exhaust out the top, but changed my mind. I actually thought about making it larger and placing the light outside. I still might do that if I can figure out how to seal around the fixture without using silicone. I'd really like to keep my fixture looking nice. Although, clear silicone would come off pretty easily. I'll keep mulling it over.

The cabinet is actually hidden well. Even if light were to escape, it would not be visible where I have it located. It is completely hidden from sight. Even a reasonable search wouldn't reveal it.

The light is rated at 200w. I'm not sure exactly what it puts out. I think it draws somewhere around 165w from the wall.

Damn@ id try to make the cab slightly bigger. Thats alot of power for such a small space! haha hit me up if you need any help with schematics

Lol, yeah it is overkill for sure. Here's the story. I just recently bought a 4x4 Secret Jardin tent. Long story short, it had a ripped seam out of the box, I ripped one because it was weak as hell, and then, when I repackaged it, the carrying case seam ripped open. So, bad luck for me and the new 2.5 version of the SJ tents. I got a 4x4 because I wanted to enclose myself in the tent, but I realized it didn't have an internal zipper, which apparently none do.

Anyway, it was supposed to be in that tent. I was going to section off a 2x2 foot area to grow, but now it's sitting in my living room with a FedEx return label on it waiting for Tuesday to ship it out.

Wasn't my first choice, but it quickly became that. I have a CFL fixture I built too. It's around 150-275 watts depending on bulb combination. It kinda scares me though. I know the electric is good, but I'm still paranoid of a fire for some stupid reason.

I'm really looking into that SoG idea. What size pots would you recommend? I have some 1 gal pots, but they seem too big.. Maybe 1L pots instead?

1 gallon pots are usually good. Try to look around for some different ones. Some are too wide, some are too tall.

And that sucks about the tent! i buy all mine used off of craigslist. And if they rip i just grab some hemp rope and a needle and get to sewin.

That 4x4 would be nice to use that 200w for the size you wanted.

Id get either a mother or feminized seeds before tryin a SOG cause it sucks when 5 out of 6 plants are male and your SOG turns into a puddle of green hahaha
