Buying Advice: 10 1-watt Epistar LED strip for $28?

Hello! I have been swapping emails with a sales rep from HopThink.com, a Shenzhen, China LED manufacturer/distributor.

I receive a price quote for an LED grow light strip that has 10 1-watt Epistar LED's all in a straight line; 8 red, 2 Blue LED's. The price quoted was $28.

I currently have a HydroGrowLED 21x-pro, and would like to buy two of the strips described above for use as supplemental lighting for a single-plant scrog grow.

Do you think this is a good deal? Too expensive? Too cheap? Sound too good to be true? Or, is it a straight-up rip-off?

I am new to LED's, and would like any guidance that I can get! Thanks!

use the $28 and go buy CFL's with it. You'll have a better chance of them working out for you

check a few of these out...30% LED more for same price...perfect for supplemental lighting and more coverage area...and still LED !

Thank you both for your input...I was thinking the same thing, honestly. I already have the ability to throw two CFL's into the tent...I should stick with what I know will work.

No problem man. LEDs are really cool and I am sure they will eventually take over growing but right now they're still so expensive and have a lot of flaws. CFLs are proven, and easily replaced if one blows out on you.

There are 3w chips showing up on ebay in E27 format for easy to use supplemental lighting. I'm using some of the 45 watt 12"x12" panels that I got really cheap but they are a pain to use. I would rather use T5s or leds than CFLs since energy cost is lower.

I would just buy cool, neutral and/or warm whites instead of these.....better spectrum fill in my opinion...

you will waste energy with too much green (550 nm range)

Depends on what your main lights are producing and whether your supplementing for veg or flower. Some Say in general Red to Blue 5 to 1, or 3 to 1 with distributions in both 620 & 660 for red and 450 & 430 for Blue

I think you have your spectrum mixed up a but....660nm is 'deep red'.

i dont think that red and blue alone can grow quality cannabis....especially coming from these 'grow lights' you linked.

Shrug...all white leds worked/works for me.

yes the 660 was a typo, already corrected. The white leds will work, but your losing the higher efficiency of targeting the primary absorption peaks. Also note this was about supplemental lights, and it really depends on what the main lights are. I combine PAR T5 setups with LEDS, using the LEDS for boosting the primary Red and Blues.

His HydroGrowLED 21x-pro should take care of the 'peaks'. I suggest warm white led floodlights to supplement. (but then again that is my answer to everything)
