Such a cool thread, and something I've thought for most my life. It's such a hardy plant, but if the breaders could somehow figure out a strain that was potent, perennial plus seeding, it would be hard to kill out.

I agree that we should be come self reliant in this regard, but there are a couple of considerations we have to make. While many of us may live in areas where grow ops and great herb are a commonplace, this is not the case everywhere. The bricked up crap being sold fills a void, and in some places, floods the market. Not only by providing something that's not as available otherwise, but by by providing a cheaper, affordable alternative to the higher quality product. For example, $50 is worth a good deal more in Mississippi than it is in California. I'm not saying that what the cartel is doing is right by any means, but unless you plan on telling people to grown their own Coca as well, you won't stop them this way. Everything there is corrupt.

Who else profits?
Drug companies, drug testing companies, grow light and fertilizer companies, Police, police informants, bail bondsmen, prison guards, lawyers, judges, court clerks, bailiffs, parole officers, drug rehab "therapists", etc all profit from the enforcement, prosecution, incarceration and "rehabilitation" of victimless crime perpetrators.
If weed were legal, I'd have no objection to a person earning a profit, but a huge drop in price would obviously occur. Whenever there is free and open competition, prices drop, the consumer benefits.
Another advantage of a truly "free market".

If it was to be legalized, how long would the market remain free? It would be government regulated just as most markets are.
Cannabis is already THE shining example of unfettered capitalism in action...worldwide. It manages to exist despite efforts by governments to eradicate it. Having those same governments come in to "police, standardize or otherwise regulate" it would simply make it more of the same.

got way lost in this thread i wanted to comment on a previous post and lost it at the end.. so i'll pick up here .. I would be willing to let the government fuck me in the ass a lil bit just as my weed dealers have been for the past years.. just as long as it means my liberty to smoke and not be a criminal.. i'd sacrifice.. when you think about it ... WE WILL have to sacrifice something to the government if it were to become legal.. right

^^^^ Those who smoke are NOT criminals, despite attempts by evil people to make them out to be. Let's not confuse criminal acts and illegal acts. Those people that make and enforce laws that justify force against peaceful people for "illegally" attempting to own their own bodies are the real criminals.
