Burnt/Singed tips on new buds

Hello all,

I have a closet grow, 2x Mars-Hydro TSW2000 and a Vipar-Spectra VA1000 which I use underneath on a dimmed bloom to illuminate the undergrowth. I'm using organic soil (Fox-farms Ocean, Fox-farms potting and some coir), worm castings, UCANN soil amendment and regular feedings with Bio-Canna Flora organic tea. I have four plants, Powerplant (Sativa), AK47 (Sativa dom hybrid), Zkittlez (Indica dom hybrid) and G13 (Indica). Everything looks pretty good to me but on one or two of the new buds (Zkittlez and G13), the white bud hairs seem to be burnt or singed. I know the white hairs turn brown/orange as they mature but these hairs seem crispy like they are burned. Is this nutrients, lights or too much fan wind? Thanks in advance.

Have you sprayed anything lately?
How close are the lights to the taller plants in the back? Are those the ones your talking about?
Any chance of pollination? Have you looked over all plants for hermies? Nodes and buds, top to bottom? If you can carefully pull out each plant individually, one at a time, with the fans off, and check em over. Doesn't look quite like normal pollination, so could just be burnt tips. Im just speculating here, just trying to cover all bases for you. What week flower are you in? 2-3?

Thanks for your reply. I've since moved the tallest plant as it was growing into the fan. Yes it is the tallest plant (AK47, now at the front) and the Zkittlez which is to the left of the AK47 at the front. I don't mess with foliar sprays. The tallest is approximately 12" from the LED. But, as the pics show below, it doesn't seem to have any light stress. I'm pretty sure they aren't hermies, they are feminised seeds from a good seed bank and haven't been stressed (much). Plus there are no seed pods or nanners, I watch my plants pretty closely. I'm now week three into flower.

Everything looking good, sorry I couldn't really help you. This has happened to me many times in the past, even with near perfect conditions. Seems like some strains will do this around week 3 almost like a "gotcha", making you think somethings wrong, then a few days later they're back to shooting out new white pistol growth. Even happened with a plant I have right now in flower, didn't even really slow down at all and after a few days the pistols that turned orange were gone, covered in new growth.

That is what I am hoping will happen, keep calm and carry on. I actually used this problem to test out a technique where the tips of the new buds are cut, which apparently increases resin production and density. I'm skeptical, but a couple bud sites to test and see. And if the browning is something weird, I've cut it off.

My first thought would be nute burn. That happened to me at like 3 weeks in flower when I gave one some seabird guano. I think it was just too much too fast. I've been growing the strain for awhile now, and that was the only time I had that happen so far.

Not looking too bad. I'd back off the nutes half way for a week or two. Adjust your ph according to the phase of your plant.

Thanks for your replies. Really appreciate the help! It turns out my Sunbeam Blizzard was too close and too strong... rather silly mistake but easily corrected. The worst affected bud is on the mend now and all plants seem happy (Sativa is stressed a little bit from light).

I can see that happening if the fan was pointed right at that bud, running 24/7 and not oscillating, whatever tiny bit of moisture is in those stigmas probably dried up and turned crispy.

Ok, that might sound a bit like bro science but its the best theory I could come up with hahaa

I can buy that too. Also if there's massive airflow, there will be more transpiration, which means they will drink more, and therefore also soak up more nutes. Just another thought.

I turned all the fans to their lowest setting and the affected buds all seem to be returning to normal. The Blizzard was on high and about a foot away, I have a video but ive just taken a screenshot from that video. All the pistils were wind swept in that direction too. It really only seemed to affect the AK47 and the buds that were where the fan hangs a second before the fan pivots back were affected the worst.

Thanks for this thread I'm growing a zkittlez right now and it's the one plant that's just like "fuck you". If seems this strain is super susceptible to wind burn. It threw me off for the longest time because I thought it was a nutrient thing and I had even transplanted it from soil to coco which was nutrient neutral and just gave it water only. It also seems to be just the top of the plant too, I have a fan on the bottom of the plant that oscillates and almost no wind burn at all.
