Burned... and temps toasty> newbie needs help

hey guys,

well 48 hours or so has passed since i cremated my two HG ladies under their new 400W HPS :( i have since kept the doors to the closet opened (at some significant risk) and regulated temps down to 80 or so. i have now installed air intake at the bottom of the cab, and an outlet at the top next to the light. each air outlet has a PC fan attached helping push/pull the air.

when i close the doors the temps still getting upto 90 with these two fans. sadly im struggling to find another fan at the moment that will keep the air flowing better inside. i will in the next day or so, however im still thinking my tempratures still going to be 5 - 10 degrees too hot. the apartments freezing, just toasty in teh cab :(

any guerilla techniques in keeping the temp down? im shady about keeping hte door open much longer, and would rather see the op go to the dogs rather than have it spotted.

also the plants, pictured, have taken a cooooookin, as you'll see. one is much less effected than the other - the one that is worse has all these shrivelled up leaves and is proper mangled at the top. is it worth chopping them out, its basically the top third of the plant!>?

im tempted for square one again, but would be a shame when in two months i could get something out of these??

porps. :)

try going with lower wattage. with that small of setup i would think you would only need about 100Watts
dayum! cant afford another light. didnt think heat'd be a problem, not a small small space, 5'x3'x2'

would getting a cool tube reflector help you think? or should i just cut my losses and try and get 100w, since i'l save on the electric too?!

thanks

i dont think you have to buy a whole lamp just a bulb try getting a lower wattage. maybe your box is just way too air tight. if you dont have any openings in the box itself you are just blowing the hot air around...

theres two six inch holes one at the bottom for the intake and one at the top for the out. each has a fan attached pulling or pushing the air as prescribed... if i make too many more holes the whole stealth thing will go right out the window lol.

so with a 400w ballast and reflector i can run a 100w HPS bulb without problems? jsut pulling the same wattage i would from a 100w ballast running the same bulb? sorry, real idiot with the electronics :s

did you say you have a fan blowing into the box, and out of the box? if so what CFM are they?

i can tell you right now, you should have an ACTIVE output and PASSIVE input.
use 2 Active outputs and more passive inputs if you have to.

if your output hole is 4" your passive input has to be 6", or 2 3" holes or 3 2" holes
otherwise you aren't goin to get the maximum venting from your system.

if your output fan is larger cfm than your input fan, you can suffocate your plants.

if the input fan is lower CFM than your output fan then your only using the lowest CFM fan in the series (the box makes a series) if you do that.

if your input fan is higher than your output fan, you are building up pressure in your box and smell will escape through cracks and back draft. and the output fan wont keep up with the input fan.

if both fans are the same, then you need bigger holes and fans on both.

hope that helps.

well im not exactly sure you would have to wait until someone who really knows posts. i think you would be alright does your lamp say 400w max on it? i think its ok to go down in wattage not up above 400W if that is the max for your lamp. can someone correct me here if im wrong..

i don't think you can do that with the bulbs. 100w ballast for 100w bulb.. i'm not 100% on that, but i think it can fry your bulb..

ah! i see. well kinda.

will try and get the jigsaw back tomorrow and make another input. im guessing from what iv read, 'passive' indicates just an intake, without a fan assisting, and 'active' indicates with a fan when you are pushing or pulling. i will cover up todays balls ups and try again tomorrow. damn shame - but thanks for that info.

any word on using a lower wattage bulb in a 400w ballast? :) - noted!± will make me some holes manjana
