really don't think an electric trimmer can beat a hand trimmer as far as efficiency. Speed becomes more important than effieciency when you have a SHIT TON to trim however.
If someone was looking for a commercial grade trimmer and they had to trim out many many lbs I think their only concern is speed so the faster your machine can trim the better.
for myself I have a lot of experience trimming for about 15 years and I really only trim 1 or 2 plants at a time these days and it only takes me maybe 20 minutes so I really have no need for a trimmer that wont do as good of a job as hand trimming.......but yeah come outdoor harvest time Ill prolly be trying to get someone to get a trimaster pro or something crazy again - but then Ill say fug it and pick up another nug and change the song - 6 months later finally done lol

earlier on in this thread i had mentioned that it took me AND my wife 14 hours to do the last batch of someone elses that we did for some extra cash while im waiting for mine to be done and i gotta say that you must be doin a shit job if you do 1 whole plant in 20 minutes. im really not trying to be a smartass but there is no way in hell thats possible by hand. we did a lot more than 2 plants because i got paid almost 3 oz just for doing it but there is no way we had an avg of 20 min per. what was your yield 2 oz? are you doing single cola Sea of Green plants or somethin?

Of all the times I trimmed, it took me a lot longer than 20 minutes, for even part of 1 branch. I never did the math on how long it took me to do an oz or a lb
or any amount. But it was closer to your 14 hour quote. I do try to make it look as best as possible. A trimmer would be nice for someone with arthritis.

Here's one that I built a couple of years ago. It trims pretty well but you still have do a little had trimming to get missed areas but it's quick. It cut my time by a little more than half so on a plant that normally took me 4 hours to trim, it actually took me just under 2 hours with the trimmer plus minor trimming by hand. My friend bought the Trimpro and the results are the same as mine. He also has to hand trim to get whatever the trimmer missed.

2 plants of my indoor is about 4 ounces give or take a few ounces and I grow them short with LST and keep them trimmed generally but It takes me 20 minutes because I trim the plant right there wet at the pot and throw it directly in the dry box which is arms reach - I know what you mean trimming can take awhile especially outdoor but with indoor there is no need to make some kind of big event out of it and the plants are nice and neat you just go to your grow room and trim the frigin plant it takes like 10 minutes or so hell I even just randomly trim up a branch here and there sometimes vs haulin it in the house and having your buddies help in some kind of ceremony ritual were u spend more time smoking joints than actually trimming like how outdoor is usually trimmed.
Now Trimming lb after lb of outdoor weed thats already been dried in the old ritual kitchen table smoke fest kind of setting yea that takes me like an hour to do the same amount if not 2 hours and the plants are bigger so one plant can be 8 hours of work easily...Really a trimmer is a great idea for outdoor grower but If you grow indoor you should really learn to do it by hand, trim it wet, and trim whatever you have time for a branch today and another one tomorrow whatever not an issue indoors unless you have like over 500 plants on perpetual grow or something only then could your hands really be that full

how did u make this and where did u get the parts (motor and blades etc) any chance of a vid of it trimming?

The top piece I made in a CAD program and had it laser cut out of 1/8" steel. I had a video but it was deleted. Here's a pic of the inside with the old blades (new blades are stainless steel) and before I found out where to buy the bag for it. I almost used that stupid bucket.

That is creative! How much was the total cost once you figured in everything you spent?

Now were talking. I was quite bummed when this thread sat here with no response. Keep the ideas coming. Will sift through the best ideas and build a great trimmer, heck might just build two of them and give away one to the person with the best input!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can we see some shots of the bud post trim? im curious how gentle that beast is.
You can get the fan for like $30. All the steel was around $10-20. Not sure cause I buy in bulk cause I fabricate lots of other shit. I got the bag for $8. The only thing that was expensive was getting the top laser cut. For 1/8" thick 2'x2' sheet cut the laser cutting company charged me $155 but for 3 sheets. So about $52 for 1. I bought 3 because if I only got 1 it would have been $145. The first one always cost the most when you get CNC service. So it was a little over $100 to make. The Trimpro cost $1500 and this one performs the same. I compared it to my friends Trimpro. Even the generic Trimpro sells for around a grand. I still have the other 2 tops but never got around making the other 2 and once I make them they are already sold. I have 2 people waiting on me to make them. Both offered me $400 for each. Problem is I just don't have the time to build them. I keep getting side tracked with other projects. My most recent project was an tincture alcohol extractor for a friend. It's kind of like a brewer. I don't have pics cause it was a personal design of his that he didn't want getting out to the public. And before that I made 6 tincture presses for another friend. It crazy with the original press sells for. They sell them for like $700. I copied them for $200 in materials to build 6. Sold them for $200 a piece. Here's a pic of the press in case you're wondering what it is.
Sorry, I haven't taken any pics. I had a video but it got deleted. But like I said earlier, I still have to do a little hand trimming after but it's quick and only takes like 10 secs. It doesn't do damage to the buds at all. Even if I lightly press the buds against the top to get a closer trim, the buds still look good. Go on youtube and look up Trimpro. The buds will look like that after trimming on my trimmer.

I was looking at some of the automatic ones, I think the Trimpro was one of them, there was even one that looked like a giant Salad Shooter,
it was huge, way bigger than I would ever need. And every one was more than I could afford. So the one you built is significantly cheaper.
And doesn't look like it will fall apart any time soon. I think once I get my final grow room set up to accommodate my legal limit, I might attempt
to build one, because I have arthritis, and it is getting worse and worse every year. Trimming by hand can get painful...

I was wondering how do you deal with the downward flow of air, does it not blow material back up. Maybe have a fine screen in the bottom for air to escape.

pretty simple just get a industrial fan them ones in them boxes get a 1/8" stainless steel plate take it to some metal shop they will use computer and either water cut or plasma cut vents approx 1/8 " slits once you got plate back place it on top of fan box mark your corners and drill holes as to mount it on box wants thats done you need legs get 1" square tubing and mount legs on your box what i did was used butter fly nuts to mount legs so its easy to dismantel now you need to get to the fan blades you can either by utility knife blade replacements and make some kind of holders on fan blades your goin to need to bend fan blades up as to almost touch the stanless top under side and your good to go )
