Build A Soil

Well B.A.S. once again impressed me.

My USPS service sucks up here anymore and they do don't always deliver on time, so I told B.A.S. about it, and they said they would put a note in my account to ship my delicate stuff like vermicompost via FedEx instead. It's supposed to be free shipping via USPS, but they don't charge me extra to send it FedEx instead which is cool.

Anyways, so I ordered another bag of vermicompost, but the shipping department didn't see the note in my account to ship FedEx instead of USPS since I ordered it online, so it was sent by USPS. Well, my package was delayed due to my shitty USPS service, and I told B.A.S. about the issue and that I was worried about it freezing. They are sending me another 1/2 cu ft bag tomorrow via FedEx.

The bag sent through USPS I found in the snow down at the mailbox today, so the hypoaspis miles might be dead, but there's still a lot of good stuff in it. I'm just really impressed with the customer service that B.A.S. provides and had to say a few good things about them.

I've got a 40 lb bag of their pinto bean compost thats getting added to my soil next round.
Nice. The pinto bean compost is on my list, just haven't ordered it yet. Let me know what you think. I just started using the Nutri Grow Chicken Manure, and my plants love it.

Im going all in on a round, hope it works lol. Trying to see if I can make an all veganic grow work. My son has a compromised immune system so I have been trying to come up with a way to get off the poop just to eliminate the chance of food contamination since I grow at home (using FFOF/HF/Bus Blend + Roots Organics liquid nutes now).

I wanted to just try the BuildASoil LOS Vegan Mix but the shipping is more expensive than the product! Since they have free shipping on the Pinto Bean compost I just grabbed a 40 lb of that for now, and going try to replicate their recipe with what I can get locally.

Im going to add some Down To Earth Vegan Mix (has most of what they are using as ammendments), some perlite, and then use this as my base.

It sounds like you have a good plan. I didn't realize you were trying to keep it vegan. That makes a lot of sense. Too bad the shipping is more expensive. Here's another vegan item that I've looked at.

Nice that looks dope thanks! I wonder is that an every time thing or do you do it weekly / as needed like compost teas? I dont see any guidelines for frequency of use.

Im going to give the DTE Vegan mix a shot first and was planning to do a weekly compost tea and probably Recharge as well. Ill definitely try this out too as I get everything dialed in. Im not sure if the DTE would get me enough cal mag to keep my girls happy under my QBs (im using 4x the Roots recommendation to keep them green at the moment). BuildABloom looks like it would solve that problem besides all its other benefits.

Ideally I would like to get to a water only situation with my setup so I can eventually do a blumat or pumps w automated drip. Currently the daily mixing of mixing of cal mag and guanos is a constant game of cleaning up drips no matter now careful I am and then having to wash and rinse my containers. Would much rather build my soil outside and then just have to top dress and occasionally give a tea soak.

I've never used it so I can't say how much to use, but if you email them they will tell you how much to add. They are super helpful like that.

I'm trying to get to the point where I only need plain water too, and am getting closer, but still use an occasional liquid nute like Neptune's Harvest Fish and Seaweed or Earth Juice stuff. I'm using less and less though as I figure this stuff out.

Buildasoil is, as I understand it, amendments to potting soil that add nutrients and can add bacteria and mycos to break large granular fertilizer down to a molecular size that plants can absorb. Chances are you can ask Buildasoil directly for more info. What Subcool did, as I understand it, was to use a version of Supersoil that he adopted from a recipe from the internet called Vic's Supersoil. This was online 20 years ago. You want to find the recipe that Sub was using if you really want to copy what he did. He added the Buildasoil products, although exactly what he used, I don't know. You might get the answer from Buildasoil. The thing to do is just ask them how to build a potting soil, use their products. You have to let granular fertilizers sit in the potting soil for a couple of months before it will be ready to use. The bone meal and other ferts will be too large for plant roots to take up, so you have to let bacteria break the materials down to a small size. This takes time - two months will suffice. You mix it all up in a container and then let it sit. You put the supersoil in the bottom half of the container because it is too hot for small plants. Use just regular Roots soil in the upper half the bucket, like a 5 gallon or bigger, preferably bigger. Subcool grew in large containers indoors, like 20 or 30 gallons per plant. He wasn't fooling around and wanted the best environment. He spent tons of money to get there.

If you want something quicker, then I'd go with Dynagro fertilizer, they make a grow (veg) version and bloom (flowering) version. Use Roots soil, not Foxfarm's Ocean Forest, that one's already loaded with fert. Roots and follow the directions on the container of Dynagro, just 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon in soil per gallon of water. I don't know if you have to feed every time you water. Right now, I kind of doubt it. If you don't want to add fert at all, then buy the foxfarm soils, use the light warrior for a small plant. When it's bigger, transplant to large pot with ocean forest and don't add anything unless you're certain you need to. If it looks like you have to add fert, a good idea would be to just transplant to a larger container with more fresh ocean forest soil.
