The way that you treat for pests depends on which stage the plants are in. Vegging plants can take poison, but is a no no for flowering plants. If you have a full blown infestation:

it depends on what kind of bugs you have. Are they aphids? Fungus Gnats? Spider Mites? White Flys? Ants? Thrips? If you aren't sure what they are, then what do they look like? Do they fly, crawl, jump? some pests can be taken care of easily as adding half an inch to an inch of sand to the top of your soil.
