other thing you can do, is weed whack the bejesus out of the area within a 5-6m circumference, like bald, that can make a barrier, maybe an azamax spray may keep them from liking the "taste" of it. Be thankful its not caterpillars from within, or you'd be screwed
typically i'd not recommend using azamax during flowering, I usually don't like anything sprayed on them during flowering, use that as a last resort.
To be totally honest, ive never had a serious problem with grasshoppers, they are transient munchers usually, so they don't colonize the plant and eat it down to nothing, i'd look at it as he's doing some defoliation for you, whether you like it or not. Personally i'd just keep a close eye on them and get a good wire mesh to make a tall tunnel around the plant where the grasshoppers cant get to the top, just make damn sure none are in there, or you'll FORCE them to stay put and eat your plant. Or you can cover the top with a screen, whatever
