My mixture consists of 30% rubbing alcohol 91%, 68% water, 1%dishwashing soap, 1% vegetable oil. I mixed it up in a old Windex bottle. I use it on flying insects - gnats/flies. 1 spray n you'll see them crashing down out of mid air. Be careful NOT to spray over your foilage, ESP in flower stage. I also use it on - Leafhoppers, gnats eggs, thrips. Maybe could be used for more but these are problems I normally have. Now mind u this, my plants never see real sunlight. They are closet grown and everything is kept cleaning w/ a weekly wipedown of the grow room. They will still come lbvfs... well anyway I normally apply to the top layer of soil and around the pots. I be very careful not to spray the foilage. Seems it helps contain the problem.
Also on another note. Always good to have at least one blue, yellow and pink sticky traps
