HEY guys i've been curing my bud for ages like months but they still smell like hay a bit like a hamster cage. They smell nice when snapped or ruffed up but after a while smell like hay again tried rehydrating but still the same

Could be a tonne of reasons. Probably just your genetics when its all said and done.

anyways, if you smoke that shit it will make it smell different.

Most people have ran into this one time or another.
It is normally due to either one of these factors... The buds not being fully dried, and still has moisture inside when you started the cure.
And, or you have left too much leaf on the buds after trimming.
Do you have pictures of the buds now? Have you been letting air get to them everyday since starting the cure?

I ran into a few strains that cure ( 4 week ) and the smell is less than when it was on the branch. Mostly with the sweet smelling strains ( for me ) the diesels and cheeses are still pretty noticeable , but the sweet fruit ones seems to be locked inside bud.

When they hit the grinder , then the smell comes out. There is other reasons too as others have mentioned but the end smoke will tell . My super skunk ended up as a mild , smooth smell and smoke.

Left sealed with to much moisture or dried to fast and jarred with to much chlorophyll. Either way nothing you can do now

If it smelt stronger on the plant, you've probably overdried it. Wet bud can smell bad too, but its obvious when you open the jar, you get a warm fart grass smell (moisture) in your face.

I've had this issue my first two grows, still havn't fixed it but I know my problem and should have after my first grow but I just get scared. Grow 3 will finally come out stinking just right(i hope). So my issue(may not be your issue but i hope my experience helps) is that I don't dry long enough, BUT they FEEL dry enough. BUT i know I'm not letting them hang dry long enough because by the time the stems are dry(because i pick the buds off and jar the buds but let the stems lay around for another week essentially drying out further) they STINK like skunk, yet my buds are hay/planty smelling cuz i jarred to soon. I kinda forgot after my first grow but then obv realized again once it happened on grow 2. My problem was worrying that I'd overdry cuz the outsides of buds felt dry(which is constantly something you hear as a sign of being ready to jar). Also you hear the ole "the stems bend but don't snap", well they always bend but don't snap until they snap so....
I think the best possible answer is that "the small stems snap". Alot of people say "when the stems snap" but then you hear people having great results with it being prior to snapping and you worry that snapping could be overdrying because what else could be a sign of overdrying? so who fuckin knows, i might just have a shitty drying environment at my 60% RH...

Anyway, how were your stems when you jarred?

Btw i've already done the research, you won't get the smell back...

I am just about to start the day from hell but this sometimes works... Get the buds in a strong freezer bag and gently squeeze the buds until they are lightly crushing but not squashed. Place in freezer overnight with air in and then remove from freezer and thaw in the bag. Once thawed blow air back in the bag if needs be and roll them round the bag until its clear of moisture. Leave another 12 hours before taking out and placing in brown bags inside the jar, you can add some lemongrass at the start of this process if its really bad but just 2 drops for every half ounce or so.

I tried everything before I gained the patience and knowledge regarding strains, this works to a certain extent so try it with a gram?

Trust me I aren't no master grower, cropper, chopper or dryer but good genetics, that's well grown and chopped when ripe fucking stinks regardless of how you dry it but chop it too early and its curtains! Don't get me wrong I'm been silly if you dry it inside a manky shithouse you're gonna kind of stink of shit, yer get me ;-)

You could always listen to Dr Robert Clarke... who seems to know fuck all about growing weed in the year 2015, just saying!
