buds on fan leaves, is this common?

I'm growing some Grand Daddy. And when it is harvest time I seem to find some full grown nugs on some of my fan leaves, I mean right on the fan leaf. I can't seem to figure out why. Is it because this strain is not perfected yet?
 
I don't know how it would be imperfect. It is clone only so there should be no muntant factors

I've had a couple leaves this happen to.
It's never gotten much bigger than a handful of calyx's though.
 
who cares why, your getting more buds! granted that one looks small in the picture but hey, it don't matter.
 
Yes... this is where the whole leaf clone idea comes in... it is possible, just with nature it takes too long. Need to use chemicals to induce a sprout.

Actually a strain like that might just be the perfect candidate to try a leaf clone with.

Unfortunately, I have yet been lucky enough to grow such a strain.

I'll vouch for the lady, I've grown several strains that grow buds like that, and the petiole is covered in trichomes, too.
