Don't chop early !! I disagree 100% with Fabfun . Look up the strain quasar.
Foxtailing is no big deal it is better to smoke buds that are finished ESP if you have grown the strains before.
Like you said it is just a heat issue. Light intensity will cause bleaching before it causes foxing...

I ask about Boost because it is full of hormones/enzymes from fermented sugar wastes and has been observed to quicken harvest time .... Who knows how a plant reacts to that depending on the week used... Plus the one time I used it all my girls got very nute sensitive...

I have one strain that when I pollinate her for seed she always foxtails at the end...I assume it has something to do with the seeds...who knows though...the buds are dense and just happen to have a few somewhat disconnected buds on top...but who cares? Still smokes awesome...and really I don't understand why we are all gung ho for huge colas..I mean I want lots of smoke too, but your plant doesn't have to feel like a brick of weed...lol. It will still smoke awesome, and it isn't like you are going to light one end of the cola and smoke it through...you inevitable end up ripping it apart anyway...so I figure these are getting started breaking up for me...

what exactly is fox tailing? i have 2 bag seed that got polenated and they seem to be taking forever to finish.... they have new bud growth(really skinkky like a couple pistol's stacked on top of one another and then a leaf) and single leaves coming out the to is this the same? they seem to be extending like this on several buds and they haven't seem to thicken yet, its like week 9 of flower, these 2 are bagseed from brick weed and they did experience a high temp change over the last week. all my other strains (blue cheese WW, and purp) all seem fine though.

and my none of my other strains take 9 weeks and these guys are in the way wondering if its worth it to chop one now and one in a week?(they have both been on water for like 3 weeks and are still pretty green in the leaves and been given maybe 3oz of feed water one time a week and a half ago.)

yep thats what going on little stack of pistoles and leaves, the plant in the vid they let bitch ripen that COOG looks nice. but anyways my buecheese does this normally but i think thats just more of its structure because the bud is dense..... so sativas do this normally so im ok, let them get ripe?

i take that as a yes.
even with seeds I would never pick my crop before it is ready. why sacrifice what quality you have with premature picking? foxtails or seeds its not worth it to me to have undeveloped tri because then all you will be doing is trying to get high...

^^ this is gospel. ^^ would you pick white strawberries?

You seem to know this strain so go until you get to ripeness your comfortable with and pick;)
I will bet your yeild is better than you think... R.c. Clarke once said f.t. Late in flower is an example of a strain pushing out alittle extra before ripening up...

well it actually makes for more trimming and weird looking buds - lots of times when they are foxtailing they are not finishing up - it is a prevalent trait in many long flowering sativas

It is not always a bad trait to have. Some excellent strains, like Blue Moonshine, always foxtail before finishing. It tends to be a trait associated with strains that have a sativa, particularly thai sativa, in their genetic make-up.

It is bad when a strain that normally does not do it foxtails, as this is an indication that something is wrong.

Anybody got a solution if one wanted to have the flower harden up rather than keep on flowering pistils.
The only thing that i have found in past grows is to cut out all nitrogen, increase cal/mag, and raise the lights. Would a shorter 'lights on' time help?
    Anyone?

  • [h=3]Rolln J Guest [/h]

if your increasing cal mag your still giving nitrogen - I cut cal mag late in flowering - shorter time on sure might help them finish...

raising the lights last few weeks seems to help with resin production/flavor

i would cut nitrogen get light temps down, and fresh air in. anything mostly sativa tho is destined to be fluffy

This happened to my indoor grow when the timer accidentally got bumped and upped the light period very late in flower. Buds started foxtailing like crazy and added on tons of new trichs. We discovered the mishap too late. We couldn't figure out what was taking them so long to finish. Duh! The buds did not finish off. We had amber, white, and clear in nearly even proportions and the stuff tasted crappy. We made some decent bubble hash with it tho.

well always a first time lol
i did it to show that in some strains it is ok they say and others not prone to FT it is not good
so just to say its ok is not really ok

and i noticed that superthrive does get blamed for it also
