Hi mate,Great work Oilmaker. Looking good! Sorry if I've missed it somewhere, but I've looked up these autopots, and the medium used in the instructional video looks soil-like. Forgive me if this is overly noobish of me, but I have no growing experience yet and I'm hunting around for what I think will be the right setup to aim for (easy to set up, easy to maintain and as idiot-proof as possible, but I desperately want to go hydro and avoid soil, as I'll be in a rented flat and soil creates some additional logistic challenges in a flat of course - hoping to eventually run a 10 plant grow in a 4x8 tent under 2 x LED's). How developed were the roots of your girls before you were able to move them into these pots and the hydrotons? Do the roots need to be right down at the bottom of these pots already when they go in? You mentioned germinating in rock-wool, do those just pop straight into the hydrotons in these autopots and if so, what are you doing your propogating in beforehand? And is that transplanting process straightforward? Again, sorry for not having a clue, just trying to get as much info as poss' in advance to make things as smooth as later on. Have you tried any other premade systems? I was looking at bubble buckets and also something like this style of aeroponics system http://supercloset.com/product/hydro-systems/super-flow-hydroponic-grow-system/
but I think the latter might be a case of trying to run before I can walk! I know the majority in here are strong proponents of DIY, but I tend to be a bit of a spaz when it comes to DIY to put it bluntly (understatement of the year)! Really don't want to flood the neighbours or electrocute meself, if possible! Any and all recommendations welcome!
The Budmasters look the nuts! I was thinking of perhaps going for the Advanced LED XML350 model to try it out. I think it worked out very slightly cheaper, but still a non-generic, fairly high quality product from what I can tell.
Hi
Hi mate,
I'll try and cover as much as possible lol
I germinate seeds in rockwool plugs. I put them in a propogator with T5 flouros on top. It keeps the temp constant and is nice and gentle. Once roots are really growing I transplant into 1L pots with a 60/40 hydroton/coir mix. I then let them fill the pot with roots before transplanting again into 15L pots. Again 60/40 mix.
Now I start withe the nutes (unless they need food before hand). 1/4 for week one. 1/2 for week 2. 3/4 week 3. 1/1 for week four. The roots need to be at the bottom of the pot before you can switch the system on. So I hand watered for the first week in the 15L pots then I switched it on. PH at 6.2 is optimal for my nutes so I keep it at that. All I have to do now is keep the reservoir full and mix the nutes. The autopots do the rest. I use mineral based nutes and florakleen to keep the pipes clean. I've never used bubblers or DWC or hydro because they aren't behinner friendly. I also outgrow a friend of mine who only grows hydro so never felt the need to change. Hope this helps
