Budding question ..

In my 2 prior grow, my plants developed bud sites but the buds didnt really grow much in size.
I never ended up with real good Kolas is what I mean.

Here is my current example.
The image is day 5 since first hairs appeared.

Question:
Are the buds supposed to grow upwards from the tips at this point (5 days)IMG_20190304_174652.jpg ....or downwards (fill in) from the tips?
My prior grows of Tri-fi never did either really.

I put white paper behind it to help show detail.
The discoloration of lower leaves is from temps.

Both, but the bigger question here is what's happening in your environment to cause the limited growth.

People would need to know more about your setup, light schedule, nutes etc to even take a guess at what's going wrong here.

Get a bit more info up and hopefully someone can help.

I would hardly call it limited growth but perhaps because I dont know any better. They have grown about 6" in just more than a week since I flipped to 12/12. They started flowering within 4 days.

These are soil grown and are under a 600w HPS.

When I first put them into the tent to flower, my A.C. was pumping cold air into the tent all night even though the light was off.
That, I believe, caused the existing leaves to purple and get shiny like that.

Will see what happens.
She still has 2 more weeks of pre-flower to go.

Do you know your lights on/off temps at canopy level?

I use a Sunmaster Super HPS 600w for flower and its fantastic. If you're going to replace the bulb at any point I highly recommend them.

My first grow turned out to be a low yeild which I put down to crappy LEDs and also overfeeding. I dialed down the nutes by half and doubled my yeild..

There's a lot of factors but if your environment is dialed in and you're not overfeeding it might be your light bulb needs changing to a better flower spectrum.

At very top of of canopy, temp is 85.
At bulk of canopy its about 75.
Overnight the tent gets down to upper 60's.

My HPS is by iPower.

This is my first attempt with HPS.
The prior two attempts were with a "1000 watt" iPlantop LED and 2 double 2ft T5's.

I wanted to blame the lighting for previous poor performance, but this grow doesnt appear much different other than a slightly faster grow during the first week of 12/12.

I bet you'll do better with HPS in flower.

Anyway, good luck. :)

You said "both". What happens between the nodes to fill it in? Does it get new nodes inbetween or do the buds stack on buds?

They grow up but in the same process the buds fill down to join the sites below. They will fill the space by whatever means they can.

Look at a fruit tree. The fruit will grow wherever it can.
