Bubbleponics and DWC - The Future of Growing

I change my 3.5 gal res with 2 gallons of nute mix every 4 days, slowly topping off as my plant drinks. I figure the fresher the water, the better off I am. Keeps my PH at 5.5 and no guesswork without a PPM. Eventually I'll dial in everything with a PPM meter and everything, but my DWC/bubbleponics is amazing.

Sorry to but in, but can you clarify "topping off" ?

i also top off, but dont replace. Once the plants get going, they will uptake the nutes pretty close (proportionally) to your water addition :)

So here are the ladies chuggin right along,.. the larger ones were germinated on 1.3.12 and the others on 1.12.12 ;

I germinated two extra - one was needed and the other had survived a week under my bed, forgotten, when I stumbled upon her cleaning. I felt so bad I put her in one of the netpots to the side. She is the smallest, and may be culled if it gets too crowded in there... which is probably will.

There is one that has a sure magnesium deficiency, and some are a tad yellow because I have been underfeeding them, trying to let the others catch up.. but nothing too upsetting. This deficiency will be fixed immediately after I up the nutes, but waiting for the younger ones to catch up, I like to keep things pretty even.

I think the roots are within days of hitting the drink, and when they do these little buggers will explode with growth.

is that 2 seedlings in one netpot?.. i'm in bubbleponics too. i could give you a bunch of advice from what i've seen so far. some ppl are touchy with that sometimes tho lol bongsmilie

thanks for the offer dude, im not sure i need any advice at the moment, but what do you have to say?

as mentioned above, the deficiencies are being caused by my low ppm (for the larger seedlings) and it is standard practice only to put one plant per net pot, as they will compete for space. but really wanted to see what would happen, so I said fuk it and let er have a chance.

post some of your pics up and lets see your expertise nukka.

not sure what was meant, but when I "top off", what I am doing is just filling the res up to within a half inch or so of the bottom of my net pots.

I add my nutrients and pH up/down incrementally after the res has been "topped off"

*I do not "top" my plants (cutting to induce more colas)* I let them grow naturale

That's what I thought but I find when I put my water at that level, my rockwool gets soaked and they like stop growing.. wonder why i'm the only one who says that haha

Sup brozif, I like the new set up, definitely seeing your ideas come together. Just some thoughts on the things you said and the things you are doing, you absolutely can get through an entire grow without doing a res change, salt build up can be a problem, but their are products that can help to prevent that from happening, not to mention just keeping the ppm's low can prevent it. But I do recommend changing between the veg and flower stage, just to get all that veg juice out of there and jump start them straight into flowering. And that's always a prime op to scrub your res if you have the time, or just swap out with a spare you have ready. I know the idea is to save as much time as possible and do as little work as possible and still get a good product, so I think those are some ideas that will help out without costing too much time. Because the biggest bummer in the world for someone who does this with little time is for the crop to get sick or to get a tox. When your time is valuable, any of it being wasted is a massive heart crushing bummer.

Duct tape is fine, our friend must have been misinformed, but that's okay, that's why this forum exists.

Remember that even seedlings can rock out with 250ppm, so if you need to go to that point, or even up to 280 you will be fine, I think you are at a .7tds factor, right? Don't let other fall behind to let some catch up, the first two weeks of the plants life are among the very most important, and a good start is a expedited launch to a good finish. So if the others don't catch up, cull them, I know with DWC it'll be only a short manner of time before your 3 survivors fill up the entire space.

Oh, and as always, take your own path, man. Win or lose, the lessons you learn will sculpt you into a masterful grower soon enough. Do whatever you need to do to get to a complete crop, do not be weary of breaking away from the game plan if it's called for. I think with regular maintenance you won't come into any problems besides a possible salt build up. That's my primary concern, not that the plants can't handle a lot of salts, because they can, but it can affect how it burns.

maybe lower your water level dude.. ideally you dont want your rockwool wet after the roots develop and hit the drink - maybe also top feed for a few days with some root stimulator or SuperThrive, it might jump start the roots. they wont develop if the are constantly exposed to water, they need to stretch/fight to get to it. (first three months i had the same problem, water levels were too high and my plants looked retarded. root growth was slow and uneven - i added more oxygen and less water and voila! cleared right up)

as far as duct tape goes a few years back most of the toxins were taken out because of pollution . im very interested in the dwc i just went out today and got all my chit air pump and tub with some extra goodies. heres what i got im using botanicare products veg and grow i got some big bud for later on today i got some coco and pete soil for meduim some power zyme and cal mag
i want to start using some botanicare products so baaad dude. i love gh but ready for a switch up, always looking for something better. I use cal mag plus, pro-tekt, and clearex. not so much clearex anymore really, but i have it, lol.

I was leary to jump into DWC because of the fear of having to pay attention to nutrient levels and TDs or ppms. Really didn't understand it and just begining to. With a small investment in the proper tools and buckets/water cooler jugs and an air pump I have my first three stand alone buckets going and are a lot of fun. Once dialed in my buckets with 6" plants have been really easy to keep an eye on and Ph holds for days at a time.If this goes well It might be both feet in. I will vegg in 3 gal buckets in a vegg tent and move the lids over to 5 gall water coolers in the flower room.

If it goes well I don't see the point in paying for soil and nutes when one can just add nutes to water. Well see how summer goes with no chiller hence the reason for water cooler jugs and a frozen 20 oz water bottle in each rez. I will try to make Rez changes every two weeks .

I'm having a lot of fun with my buckets and hope to move to a legit RDWC system one day.

How exactly did you "add more oxygen" ?

You can determine how well it will work in summer by measuring now how high temps get under the light in your flower room, and compare that to ambient temps (out in the room). If the difference is, say, 10 degrees, then ask yourself if you can keep the temp in that room below 70 when it is however hot it gets outside in summer. I can do it with lots and lots of AC, but it isn't worth it so I never grow in summer.
