Bubble system

hey skunk, i started useing the cheapest wal mart pump i could find. it was like 4 or 5 bucks for a single outlet air pump. it works just fine, but i kinda worried about it going out on me without me knowing and the size of my room got bigger. so i went and bought the dual outlet pump it was like 10 bucks.
i run 2 dual outlet pumps per tub, but i run 1 air line from each air pump to each tub the other air line i run to the other tub. just incase 1 pump goes out there will still be air getting to the tub. i went up in tub size too. it was to much trouble checking the tds and ph in 10 different tubs so i got the big 50 gallon tubs and just use 4 (12 plants per tub x 2 flowering tubs and 2 veging tubs.)
anywhoo if you run into any probs let me know. ive had just about everything that could go wrong go wrong. good luck and keep us posted

you have 4 - 50 gallon tubs.... WOW...

picture please :)

Mr. Bad,

I noticed that your room temp is 20+ degrees warmer than your reservoir temp. How do you keep your reservoir temp down?

cheers

sure thing knowm. right now im useing only 1/2 of the total room. this is my first hydro grow so i didnt have enough plants to fill the whole thing up. ive only got 12 plants flowering now.but ive got a truck load of clones that are rockin right along. when everything is ready ill have 24 in veg and 24 more in flowering.
as for keeping the res's cool. i had some small water pumps from fountians that i dont use anymore. i put the pump in the res with about 10' of hose ran under my grow room on the ground back into the res. it gets a bit chilly here at night so the cool water at night keeps it cool in the day. so far the biggest overnight swing in temp was from 69 down to 62 back up to 67.(all in 24 hours) i think putting the hose under ground say 1' deep would be way better at fighting the temp swings. i know its not the best way of doing things, but this is my first hydro grow and ima tight wad. lol
ill toss up some pics when the lights come back on...
and thanx for the ego boost in calling me mr. lol

LOL.. well Mr. BAD,

so if I understand, the reservoirs are in the crawl space under your house?

that is also a GREAT place to access cool air during SUPER HOT SUMMERS..

:)

na i dont grow under my house. im to scared of a fire. i use 1/2 of a 8'x16'x8' (WxLxH)shop for lawn mowers and such. im shooting for a sealed grow space.
ok pic 1,2, and 5 are of the 50 gallon tub with 12 plants that have been flowering for 1 week in it. that will be 2 tubs with 24 flowering plants for my next grow. right now they have 1-1000 watt HPS light (i have cool tubes but havent needed them when its so cool outside), 4-4' floros for side lights, 2 fans, and homemade CO2. (everything will double on the next grow)
pic 3 is of the lil pump i use to drain the res's and its the same kind that i use to cool them. they are like 10 bucks at wal-mart.
pic 4 is of the tubs i was useing. its got a few of the clones i took in it. not all the clones were growing as fast so they are still in a smaller nonnuted bubbler.

oh and i wanted to say i got your dvds and loved'em. the dude in the Harvard t-shirt cracks me up every time i watch. priceless lol

wow.. nice photos...

Inside those tubs is water.. correct?
and the roots drop into the water (nutrient fortified, pH 5.5 -5.8) correct....?
and the water has a shit load of air stones putting LOTS of O2 in the water ?.

or are there sprinklers in the tubs?

can I see inside the tubs?

:)

yup its just water set to 5.8 and nuted to 1300ppm with GH nutes, a lil cal/mag+, 9 pure power plants, and 3 og kush. there are no sprayers at all just air curtains/stones. in the 50 gallon tub ive got 4-24" air curtains and in the smaller tubs i just have 1. (see in pic 4) i used the stones at first but they get stopped up pretty fast so i switched to the curtains. i havent had any probs out of them so far,,, other than i had to tie them down. the lil sucker cups wouldnt hold them down in the res's.
the first pic of of the inside of one of the smaller tubs. i didnt have time to get all the plants out of the big 1 to show u but its the same other than the number of air curtains.
i know the roots are a lil off in color but i tried to use some sea weed extract (suppost to be good mojo), but all i could tell it did was stain my roots.

thanks man, thats much appreciated!! I gotta say if my tubs turn out like urs i will be over the moon! so i went looking round the shops yesterday and saw this perfect 30 gallon res.
Im back home for xmas hols.. gotta wait till i go back to london and my student loan come through till the project kicks off!(i cant wait any longer:mrgreen: )

What inch net pots u using? i guess they dont need to be to big because the roots grow straight down...directly towards food source?

Dont suppose the pump you use is rated like Litres/Gallons Per Hour- LPH or GPH? thats what im confused over...i dont wanna buy a pump that will turn it into the niagra falls.

(Homemade Co2 :blsmoke:.Fermentation? im definately be using that, heard very gd things!)

Mr. BAD ASS..

very very nice.. thanks dude..

I think you are smart for keeping your res water extra cold ( 68 )... no reason to tempt root rot since the roots are submerged in water 24-7... nasty bacterias and mold love warm temps...

please keep us posted.. your set up is soooo simple and so BAD ASS... many should be able to learn from you!!! How much do you have invested?

thanks
lovelovelove

one more question... LOL

1300ppm og GH 3 part solution correct...

What ratio are you using? for veg? and for flower?

cheers

thanx alot Mr. knowm. i read somewhere that the perfect temp for nute uptake is 68, and anything above 72 is just beggin for root rot. so i try to keep it as close to 68 as possible. it does drop off a bit at night, but it hasnt seem to have any effect on the plants at all.
im a huge fan of the KISS (keep it simple stupid) way of doing things. i set up everything on this grow to be as easy and simple as i could. because its my first hydro grow i check everything daily, but i could get away with checking once a week (prolly every 2 weeks) if i needed to. with the res's being so big i dont have probs with ph swings or ppm drops. im sure as the plants get bigger i will have more of a prob with it, but for now the ph is going from 5.8 to 5.9 and the ppm drops about 50ppm weekly. just about everything in my grow room has a failsafe in place. ive got the air pumps split between the tubs so if 1 does poop out on me the other will still be pumping air to both tubs. i have the lights run to different timers so if 1 goes out the other will still come on and not mess up my hours of light. better to be safe than sorry.
the cost on this grow is waaay high. ive bought alot of stuff i dont need anymore like the small tubs, air stones, and stuff like that. but knowing what i know now i could remake this setup for
50 gallon tub - 13.00 x 4 = 52.00
dual outlet air pump- 10.00 x 4 = 40.00
50 5" net pots- 12.50
24" air curtain- 3.00 x 8 = 24.00
50' of air line- 10.00
100 2"x2" rockwool- 10.00
50 lbs of hydroton- 45.00

and thats for 48 total plants.(around 4.00 per plant about the same as a decent size flower pot for soil grows) i had some stuff like the water pumps already so they were free to me, but about 6.00 at walmart. for 1 of my next grows im going to try either SCROG or SOG and use 2" net pots with 200 plants and no hydroton.(less than 1.00 per plant and faster harvests) i have to wait untill my plant numbers come up enough that i can do that tho.
and the GH nutes i use im trying to tweek a lil bit. i used 3,2,1,(g/m/b)for my veg on this crop, but ive been reading and im going to try 0,3,1 for my next veg. the flowering is set on 0,1,3@1300PPM now and the plants are loveing it. i dont use any additives other than cal/mag+ and on very young plants i add a lil bit of super thrive.
i hope ppl do read this and learn from my mistakes. its sooo much easier to read about how to or not to do something than it is to fix your own probs. i dont know much but im more than willing to help. lol
heres a helpful link on nutes with a cool lil Nutrient Profile Calculator.

hey skunk sorry dude i missed your post. now im useing air pumps rated for 30 gallon fish tanks(2 per 50 gallon tub). i was useing pumps rated for 10 gallon fish tanks(2 per 25 gallon tub). the bigger air pumps have dual air outputs and thats a big+. the small single air output pumps are ok i guess, but for a big tub like mine its just easier to have the big pumps. 1 word of warning tho, if you are growing in a place the you need things to be quite get the high dollar pump. the cheap-o-s ive got are kinda noisey. i hung mine sideways to quitein them down some, but you can still hear them humming away. good luck with your grow and let me know if theres anything i can do to help.
the first pic is of the small single outlet pump
pic 2 is of the larger dual outlet pump

"Dont suppose the pump you use is rated like Litres/Gallons Per Hour- LPH or GPH? thats what im confused over...i dont wanna buy a pump that will turn it into the niagra falls."
are you asking about the water pumps i use for cooling or the air pumps? i got confused. lol (easily done) the water pumps are the small lil pumps you find in desk top fountains. they are tiny,,, bearly strong enough to move the water.
and im useing 5" pots now, but if i was to start all over i would use 2". with the 5" ers you need 4"x4" rockwool or hydroton. with the 2" pots you could do away with all that and just use 2"x2" rockwool.
oh and the co2 is just about the coolest thing in the world. lol it just bubbles away. super easy make and easy to maintain.

THANKS bad u've just pretty much singlehandedly sort my questions list hehe...now on with the grow. will be sure to post it when i start ;)
