Brown tips on leaves

Hi, First post here and first grow (wardrobe grow)! The tips on some of my leaves are turning brown at the tip only and i'm wondering what is the cause and how to resolve this problem,

I hadn't given them any nutrients as they were transplanted into there new pots with new john Innings compost a couple of weeks ago

I was watering them with tap water but I have now (since I noticing the brown tips) started to buy still bottled water that has a ph of 7.0 as I presume that would be better than the ph in my tap water (I must get a ph meter!)

The plants are getting there light from CFL's and the top of the plants around 8 inches away from the lights and I have an oscillating fan on whenever the lights are on

Any advice?

Over watering or Damaged roots or Not enough soil aeration.
Magnesium Deficiency will make your leaf tips turn white.

I have moved the plants down lower away from the lights to see if that will help and I had another look at the plants, I have four growing around 3-4 weeks now (transplanted 2 weeks) and one of them has got slight white tips, Should I start giving them nutes now?

Which John Innes soil are you using, I tried some on my last grow and it was too hot for the younger plants, I think the No1 is ok for young plants but Nos 2 & 3 are not suitable. If this is the case I would re plant in more suitable soil.

Mate i run my cfl's no more than 4" away from the tops (cfl's are much less intense)

Are you feeding at all cos the brown tips look like nute burn.

Hi its just John Innes multi purpose compost ... no1 2 and 3 were all out of stock

No I havn't fed them at all, but I was thinking it was nute burn too, could it be the compost as above?

Post a pic of the bag mate cos iv ran in some john inns dirt but only had issues when iv not over watered but close to if you see what i mean (everytime you water it realeses nutes)

Iv used the same brand but the seedling mix. I imagine the seedling mix has less nutes and mine only feeds for 3 weeks. So id conclued it could be the soil burnin her. I dunno about a solution for ya thogh mate as all my probs have been needin more feed not less.

This is where somebody else says;......

Based on my exp with John Innes it is too hot for seedlings, ok for bigger plants but i'd recommend changing to a more suitable soil a.s.a.p. The John Innes No1 I think is ok for seedlings but the others are too hot, I bet this mix has the No2 or 3 added for the ferts.

Forgive my stupid question but what does too hot mean?
