British Columbia Seed Company beans are old

Hi all,

I've been an avid lover of BC Seed Co's beans for almost 20 years and have had plenty of fire from them. I bought more of their seeds recently from a reputable bank and none of them germed. They were 10 Big Blue and 5 of the fem Northern Lights 5. It's a real shame as I would really like to grow their big blue again, sadly, I wont touch them again.

I contacted the bank and they advised that the wholesaler had no reports of bad germ rates, I call bullshit on the wholesalers part as I've had 100% germ rate on all the beans Ive popped in the last 6 months, some of those were from around 2000.

It's fuckin bullshit hey! Worst part is, the breeder apparently doesnt even exist anymore, the wholesaler got a whole stack of seeds and just decided to stock everywhere, even though they havent been making seeds for years! Try searching for them in google, their site takes you to some scam site. So there goes $200 I wont see again and looks the same for you too!

thats crazy bro, sorry to hear of your loss of $, ive never heard of that bank? but its amazing even if they are scamming they go to the effort of even posting the beans that are fake that dont even germinate? how hard is it to get b-grade beans that germinate? wierd shit goes down in this business brother, thanks for the warning!

Their NL#5 has gone downhill the last 3-4 years anyway.......try to find Bodhi's NL#5 crosses for some fire.
I wouldn't know bro, was trying to pop some to find out but never got to ha ha ha.

Ah it's all good bro, I guess I was trying to reminisce about the good old days ha ha. I'm bewildered that whoever has sold them to the wholesaler, thinks they can get away with it. These beans are stocked in every major bank in Europe and they are old as fuck! Let this thread be a warning to anyone, dont buy them!!

i see, trouble wth the golden oldies is very few keep making the grade after many yrs, with types like AK47 & Romulan being a mere shadow of their former selves because of original genetics loss & or poor choices in breeding etc, i understand that a person doesnt want to get caught up in the 'latest' hype of new strains but if they are being grown out & proof of life & quality is posted on these pages it may be a safer bet than chasing long gone rainbows? nostalgia is a powerful emotion for sure!

Well at least that makes sense then!
Pretty shitty thing to do.
Be honest, the ones I got from them through Emery, I had only one germinate.
Although, that one was one of the best NL#5 ever!!

Lol, Marc Emery was where I got my first BCSC beans from too, the original NL5 and Big Blue, damn they were fire, it's why I went back after all these years. it's a real shame too!

I used to grow out their N.L. #5 maybe 10 years ago and it was widely accepted to be the best on the market at that time. It was really good, not A+ stuff, but very good none the less. Then maybe 3-4 years ago I decided to run it again once and was mildly disappointed. Just another example of strains going downhill when the breeder is forced to create more seeds again after seed mothers died or genetic drift or whatever. I've read numerous wonderful reports on Bodhi's hybrids with his NL #5, but they sell out quickly and are very difficult to find.

Yeah good stuff man, I'd love to get a good cut of the old NL5, it was some seriously tasty weed! Definitely agree with the cultivars going downhill too, seem to see it all too often these days!
I really wish I hit up the NL from Bodhi too, just wasnt quick enough!!

I still read good reports on Sensi NL #5 X Haze.....maybe you can find a NL#5 leaning pheno and go from there. I grew 5 of those out long ago and they were MONSTERS- grew and grew and grew to heights like no other. A BIG ASS PLANT FOR SURE!!! It was long before I learned to pinch and train. The smoke was top shelf, but the grow was a challenge for my novice skills at the time.

Hmm yeah, might be worth it hey. I got a pack of NL5 bx1 from Serenity Seeds that look like they should work well. They crossed the NL5 back to Mt rainier which has Bodhi's snow lotus in it!!
