Breeding technique?

Ok so i have 6 sativas growing outdoors. They are starting to show sex.
4 are female, 1 is male and one not sure yet.
Any way i want to pollinate a branch of my healthiest female for seeds for next year..
but all my plants are in the same area. and dont want to pollinate them all.
How would i go about doing this??
Take cuttings of the male (then get rid of it) to make clones and keep them somewhere where they cant get the females till i get pollen from them?
OR can i wait for the balls to become more mature then cut the top off the plant and leave the stem in water? (i read that somewhere)
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks

Your on the right track. I have used both of these techniques.

If you decide to go with option 2, you will collect less pollen.
Place the cup by a window in your home, and put a white piece of paper under the cup. The paper will collect the pollen as the male flowers burst open. Use the pollen immediately, or store it for later use.

If you go with option 1, you will collect a lot more pollen. Once the cutting roots, grow it in a small 1 gallon pot. I suggest you keep it indoors if possible. You will have to inspect it daily once the male flowers begin to mature. Once most of the male flowers look a little swollen, I would then tip the pot over and place a white paper under the plant... not the pot. You will collect a lot more pollen this way. Ive never stored any pollen, but I hear you can preserve it for up to 3 months. Place the pollen in a zip lock back, and throw it in the freezer until you are ready to use it.

When pollinating your selected bud, be careful. Place the pollen in a zip lock bag, and throw the bag over the selected bud. Give it a few good shakes, and let the bag sit overnight. Carefully remove the next morning, and mist the bud to prevent any pollen from pollinating your other buds.

I planted 10 plants this year outside, 6 were female, the males I killed as soon as they showed sex. I didn't want seeds but all of my plants had seeds in varying degrees..some have 2-3 per bud and some have none. Since I don't know who the "father" is, I have no idea what these seeds will produce. I'll plant them and see what happens. Point is though, please be careful when messing with pollen outside, it travels a long distance and you may really mess up somebody's crop, as is what happened to me. If possible it would be best to grow plants that you want to make seeds from indoors. You got better control and you won't piss anybody off.

I'm guessing you're from the southern hemisphere? Since you can grow outside now.

Thanks man, thats really good advice, Especially the last part about pollinating as ive never done it before.
I think ill try both techniques and get cuttings off asap.
Although on a related topic as it is the second month of summer where i live do you think they will have enough time to root and flower in time??
i guess i wouldnt have to worry about vegging it though hey?

Yeh im in australia :) and yeh that is true
I have a green house which i was going to use to grow the male cuttings in. nice and humid and warm. Also has a shade cloth over as it works too well this time of year which will be good as clones dont require much light to root.

If you plan to grow them in the greenhouse, clone the male and female. Keep them both in the greenhouse, and you will end up with plenty of seeds.
