Wondering what i did wrong...

I had a Blueberry male that i collected pollen from and pollinated a White Skunk female with it...

I was excited to have a but-load of seeds but all of the 3 females i grew from the new seeds were HORRIBLE trichome producers and the buds were not sticky AT ALL... After a few weeks of flowering them i gave up and pulled them...

What did i do mixing the two strains to get such a horrible result... ??

Where is a good place to find BEGINNER info on breeding and what not to do...

The grow faq has a few good articles but they are really more advanced then i need at this point... I just need to learn how NOT to mess it up... =]

When you mixed two strains, you mucked up the genetics the original breeders had aimed for, and when you want to breed, it takes generations of plants to get your best genes. So keep trying seeds until you get something good going. Also, you didnt say how long you let them go before you ripped them up. Blueberry is a 10 week plant(give or take) and great white is a 50 day plant. You may have gotten seeds more blueberry dominant(would have been deliicious) and it may have taken an extra 2 or 3 weeks longer than your great white to come to full potential. Even if they were shazz plants, you could have grown them out, you could have made hash. 'Cause when life gives you shake, make hash.

They were definitely shwill as i had some good size buds starting but no sticky fingers... =P All of the plants that i have grown are at least sticky and crystal packed with the first sight of good bud formation...

They were clipped and put away in a container of trim, male plant parts, etc... May be my cana butter stash... =] We shall see... =P

It was White Skunk from white label not great white but yup still a 50-55 day plant... =]

And lastly is there a definitive way of deciding what strains will be good/bad to mix besides trial and error... ??

Or would these have ben a good mix but i just happen to get a bad gene mix this time around and i should try again... ??

Thanks... =P

Breeders grow out hundreds of plants and spawn many generations to identify specific genetic traits which most of us don't know and and cannot look for. If you want to breed and STABILIZE cannabis you need to have the capacity to grow a large number of plants at the same time. You need mothers, you need clones and you need a separate chamber for males and pollination....it seems really intimidating from a hobbyists perspective.

I know what you want, you want kick ass cannabis genetics. The only way to do that is keep mothers, take clones, and every once in a while find someone else who grows and trade up some genes. Having a room full of different pot mothers and being able to grow out and experience different varieties is way better then trying to luck your way into viable seeds.

Seedless bud is way better anyway, you sure

one of the best ways

order seeds of 2 diffrent strains , keep the males and females for each. Take clones off of each plant and make sure you label them and what plat they come off of. and flower 1 plants using the male with every female of the otehr strain to make a bunch of batched but keep track) and keep doing that and germ the seeds then take clones off of that plant and label it to and take a clone and flower it to find out the sex of the seed you started the plant from. once you get a female harvest alot and have people you can trust to sample it and see what is the most liked

One of the best ways? Come the @%#$ on. What is this advice based on? Breeding IS NOT FOR THE HOBByiST, I'm not a hater, im a realist. Clone and smoke SENSIMILLA

As i said this was more of an experiment then anything else... I have seen many an experiment on these forums where people have mixed their own strains...

Some of them experienced some not but almost all of them had a small scale set up... =]

Any way i wont let one failure slow down my efforts to investigate and learn...

You can still get seeded buds and seedless buds from the same plant... Selective pollination... You will get a few stray seeds but if you do it carefully you can seed one bud and have the rest good head smoke... =]

Live and learn... =O

Dont pretend like im not seeing something.

You are not breeding, you are randomly shotgunning f2 genes.

Breeding is about more then finding good weed, its about stabilizing what you do find, that means you need clones and copies of even the male parentage. When you combine the two parents you get a random selection of chromosomes. Breeding is looking at 100 offspring of two parents and identifying their traits.

Im sorry I sound like a dick, I just see too many novice growers seeding their pot before they learn the basis of mother keeping and cloning. These are foundational skills if you want to breed cannabis.

Learning is based on the application of knowledge for the purpose of problem solving. before you can learn from your mistakes you have to understand what those mistakes are, and it has to do with not growing 20 f2 plants to see if any of the traits that you like remained stable.

Thats what your question really is, how do I not mess up this breeding, and the answer to that is to expand your operation. Breeding is about combining parents, growing out 20 offspring and selecting the best, over and over. Its a numbers game because you are statistically likely to have both bad and good gene combinations and while 3 plants only really gives the opportunity for a few f2 phenotypes to be expressed. You chopped them early though so you couldn't evaluate them as you would have at the end of flowers. Did you take any notes on your f2 males?

Plus "experimenting" means that now Canada green can give out breeding advice, but at least he knows about the best ways.

Edit: You CAN seed pot without seeding the upper branches, but can a beginner with basic equipment and no isolate male storage/pollination area? Making seeds is a resource drain on a plant I need to keep producing drugs.

You can use your veg space if you have one...

I take my male into my veg space and put it on 12/12 for about a week... It is enough to get enough pollen and not so much to disturb the vegetative phase...

It usually takes my plants two weeks to show visible change to a flower stage... Even then they could easily be reverted back that early in...

There are lots of good ways to grow without a professional set up...

Thats the best part of it...

If it stops growing its dead that goes for people too...

No... ??

Hey fdd, So is hijack your own creation? Mystery male X air force1 then take a male and cross it with road trip?
I'm really into this breeding stuff. Trying to make some S1's at the moment.
Looks like some killer genetics, big colas.
