Brand new to LED

Hi guys, im a HPS in soil grower and just ordered myself a ESL-CREE XPE CX 10. i didnt do a lot of homework as usual but think i got a good deal. i have a small tent 1.60 x 75 x75 and normally run a 600W HPS dimmed to 400W but nearly always suffer heat issues and that WTF look from Mrs Glezga when the electric bill comes through. im a percy grower, so not bothered about massive yields over quality.

its been nearly 6 months form my last harvest and itching to get started again, soon as my LED arrives ill be back at it. i haven't a clue about LED and don't like to forum hop too much, so you will probably see me about asking noob questions.

still mulling over what strain to grow but ill be in 4 x 10L airpots, soil and organic nutes (mostly) - i may get some foxfarm ready for this one, a friend uses these and has great results. i normally use biobizz and have used ghouse powder feed.

WOW this is getting long lol

anyone got basic advice on switching from HPS to LED?

cheers

Steve

Good luck! I'd choose some quick flowering easy strain, i'd run it 12/12 from seed so you can get to the meaty end and see how your light will flower. I doubt it will perform like the HPS, less 'power', less heat.. but so long as it finishes you may be ok with the yield. You may need more nutes, cal/mag (it should at least veg ok).

Congrats. Agreed you wont have the yield of hps. But you'll get quality smome with a much nicer bill, and the best part is say goodbye to heat. Extra calmag is needed growing led. I also run mostly organic nutrients, it seems to work well.

is it shit? i paid $250 but its part of a deal, where i do a journal for them and they refund me. its supposed to be the LED equivalent of a 600w HPS

what is it actually?

i had planned on vegging and flowering with this, i have a brand new 600w HPS solistek with 4k and 10K bulbs for veg/finnish sitting in there boxes looking at me!

bad idea?

Well, I'd never pay $250 for such a light.
I'd estimate it's equivalent of a 250W HPS maybe slightly better. A 400W HPS would certainly beat it.

oh dear! ive emailed them and asked for an explanation. i asked for the 600w equivalent and didnt actually "place and order"

maybe they will come back with the "its free once you complete the journal" argument, thinking ive been hoodwinked.

Alesh is right, a 600w hps is very efficient, epistars won't keep up with it in flower. Even their cree xpe version with unknown group/bin will fall short of a 400w hps.

I was a big fan of top-bin cree xpe 630nm and they where a work horse for the time, but the new vero2/cxb cobs smack the shit out of them imo..
